Horrors follow me
Tragedy befalls me
Yet I scatter the seeds of hope
In a foolish attempt to fly
To lift my soul back up to the sky
I have to keep looking up and across
This seed I plant grows into a tree
The grass and flower nourishing
From parted clouds the water fell
I saw the sky and stars and felt
Felt, for the first time
That I could be more than I've ever been
Since my great and brilliant losses,
Just me, once again
Horrors follow me
Tragedy befalls me
But now I can turn and face it
Despite impossibility,
I live the greatest mystery
I made my choice and now I pull the strings
This seed I plant grows into a tree
The grass and flower nourishing
From parted clouds the water fell
I saw the sky and stars and felt
Felt, for the first time
That I could be more than I've ever been
Since my great and brilliant losses,
Just me, once again
Give up,
No, resist
This whirlwind in the mist
For them
For those
Who fight for what was sought
So long ago
This seed I plant grows into a tree
The grass and flower nourishing
From parted clouds the water fell
I saw the sky and stars and felt
Felt, for the first time
That I could be more than I've ever been
Since my great and brilliant losses,
Just me, once again

I wrote this after reading a book which struck a deep chord in me. This is one of my favorite pieces that I've written. Every word is highly symbolic, my personal interpretation of the book. What's really interesting is that many years later, an unrelated movie came out that seems to fit this poem exactly.
Enjoy.

This poem is beautiful. I admit I got a little choked up reading it, and that was before I even noticed the double-meaning around Tree, Star, Water, Sky, Grass, and Flower. You are a genius!
The line "great and brilliant losses," is an amazing line, too. The double meaning between losses meaning the loss of lives he's experienced, and obviously the reference to him being the Brilliant Loser.
Each word in this poem is so carefully chosen and so powerful. Wow.
