I remember test setting up an RG500 Suzy at an old airfield many many moons ago and those speeds were almost reachable then with the correct gearing and stuff. Also recall hitting a plum stone or summit at the same test place at around 1000KPH (No, I disagree! ) and the front wheel suddenly wanted to head for the fields to my right of the runway. It all happens in slow motion, thankfully, because of adrenalin, and your super fast adrenalin fuelled brain acts a bit like the Matrix movie (mine does anywaysStupid Me! ) and your reactions speed up triple fold to save your life. I ended up laying over the clear windshield but had smashed through it and was looking down at the front wheel slapping from side to side until it evened out. Then we both came to a rest and carried on, but with a busted fairing and windshield. I only started shivering a bit on the way home from the airfield... MAD!!!

At 16, against my parents warning I ride with my boyfriend on his Harley. A dog bolted out in front of us. He put the bike down to avoid hitting the dog. He broke his leg under the bike, I suffered a concussion and broke my right collar bone. We were only going 40mph. Never rode again though it was the Easy Rider generation.

Goodness I'll bet your parents went ballistic at the boyfriend. I would... I'd have torn his dangly bits off!!! Funny how we try to avoid hitting animals an nearly kill ourselves in the process... Hope they appreciate this in our character. But we had no fear at this age, did we? I came off a bike once doing about 10mph... On a really REALLY slow bend with my side stand foot prong marking the tarmac neatly with a clean dark arc line - until the drain came along... Then I headed for the 25th century!!! Saw Colonel Wilma Deering (OH-WOW-satin galore) through a glass fuzz as I went skyward and bashed my head so hard as I flipped it busted my nice new, shiny, Barrie Sheene crash helmet. That was the slowest crash -and it hurt the most. I slid off the race track at about 140mph at Brands Hatch once and laughed all the way across the grass. But I had just passed ex world champion Phil Reed on a general practise open day - but I'm not sure if he wasn't really trying... Or was he?!?
Painful but unmissable days to be sure!!!
