Hey /MLP/! We need to talk.

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 26, 2013, 3:03 PM
Yo /MLP/! I want to preface this by saying I have no problem with you guys at all. Some stuff has come to my attention and I just want to cover it. Some of you are upset. Not froth-at-the-mouth outrage upset, but maybe somewhere between "annoyed" and "displeased". I don't like upsetting people, and apparently I've been doing that for a while. So consider this an explanation/apology/ wtf-people post.

So for the unaware, it turns out there's this group of people who like the idea of app/browser ponies and they're busy writing their own fiction (awesome!) and drawing their own artwork (awesome!) and character designs (awesome!) elsewhere on the web. And according to some over there, I've been winding them up by ignoring them and/or lurking on their threads and stealing their ideas (wait, what?!).

:| Ouch, guys.

Until approx mid April, I didn't know about any of this. I knew there were a few Tumblrs and sparse traces of art floating about the web featuring characters based on (and not based on) my own. I knew my stuff was being shared in other countries and translated into other languages. I loved the idea people were drawing and enjoying these characters. Sometimes I would search to see if there were any new images featuring them. But a Google Image search generally comes up with nothing but a few great images I've seen before, my own stuff, unrelated stuff, and some rather well-drawn clop, if you're into that sort of thing.

So this guy gets in touch back then and says hey, there's actually this place where these people get together en masse and make their own content about "browser ponies" and such. It's /mlp/, on 4chan... and they're making entire threads dedicated to these ideas and there are lots of these threads.

I knew /mlp/ existed, but hadn't imagined "browser ponies" would be a distinct subject category there. Over several days I found a couple threads (#10 & #11 maybe?) loads of content (albeit mostly fiction, which I don't read, will explain why in a mo) and a fair amount of criticism about me. If I understand correctly, I'd stepped on some toes by releasing a design for the browser "Torch" (by request, I might add) which conflicted with an existing design you had already accepted. Possibly a few other things I forget. So I left. You seemed fairly autonomous, you were doing your own thing, you didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about what I was doing (or the vocal minority weren't), so… yeah. I considered posting about this at the time but figured I'd leave it. It was a bit disheartening but hey, we weren't really disturbing each other. :D I let the guy who notified me know that it was awesome people were doing their own thing with this and then carried on with my own stuff.

Fast forward and, the other day I finally release a Windows pony concept I've been working on (by request, again) and I'm really happy with it. But a second user comes forth (thanks!!) and says /mlp/ is a little upset about this too.

So today, I go and I find and I read the thread.

Let me address the issues raised as I found them:

11648109: dammit paralax.
***** keeps taking my ideas

11648195: what the heck
seriously parllax if you read our threads then we'd love to you do art here with us
but you can **** off if you are gonna take our ideas and then only post it to redshit and deviantart

Thanks for the offer to join you, that I do appreciate :) but I'm not taking ideas. If you have an idea and someone else has the same idea, neither of you have stolen each other's ideas.

I specifically want to avoid influence which is why I don't read fiction and I I don't scour the web for threads to borrow ideas or designs from. The idea was to PREVENT these kinds of problems but evidently it isn't working too well (sorry about that).

Moreover, the kind of content you're sometimes posting over there is not part of my collection of interests. I don't mind it AT ALL. Seriously. :D It didn't put me off exploring the threads I did see (since I was skipping fiction anyway, I mostly only encountered anecdotal discussion about such stuff). But it's just not been a draw for me to come back, really.

11648294: I really doubt he's reading the threads. The ponies have totally different designs. It's likely a coincidence that he drew Windows ponies.

Stop being so buttmad.

You would be right! Thank you. :) I was asked to make an image involving "Windows" characters (for the millionth time, admittedly, but I finally had an concept I liked, so it was time). Not that this should matter, people. This isn't a friggin' patent system! Where I've borrowed from other designs, I've asked permission (Chrome, Firefox, IE). This is disclosed where necessary in the submission descriptions.

11648346: >sudden shift from browser to OS ponies
>making windows 8 a filly

I'm finding this increacingly hard to believe unless its a commission from someone in this thread

Of course she's a filly. Win 8 has been just released. Can two people not come to the same conclusion on this?

Nor is there a sudden "shift". I don't regard these as a distinct category from what I was already working on. I suppose you could say I'm grouping things under the tag "digital". I suppose you disagree (fair enough).

I don't do commissions, I don't feel my art is worth money and don't really want the responsibility, but if someone asks me to do something and the planets align just so, I will comply. I was asked to create a Windows-related character. As far back as a YEAR AGO, actually, but also recently. Perhaps they came from /mlp/, who knows? I'm wondering if that's what happened with Torch as well. Suspicious, I have no way of knowing though. There are many requests I haven't (yet) fulfilled for all sorts of things. I wonder if they were timed with any discussion over at /mlp/ too?

11648550:>>11645385
>>11648294
are you also aware that the mane and body colour for windows 8 are freakishly similar

seriously go into PS and check the colours or our winnie and his metri, the mane colours practically match. body colour isnt that far off either

You're right!! It's almost identical, the mane colour (going by eye anyway. I haven't tested but someone did in that thread). I eyedropped the Win8 logo. If you did too, then of course some features are the same colour. Eyedropping a logo is one of the first things I do to establish a set of colours for a character, with which I may then experiment. :)

11648703:This is sad because if Parallax had just posted here then we could have been friends.

But keeping us in the dark about this makes it look like he is stealing our ideas and now it seems there is huge dislike for him here.

How am I keeping you in the dark?! I gotta broadcast my friggin' schedule now? You could always ask, you know. Everyone knows I'm working on MLW5 and I usually reply if I'm liking someone's request and think I might have an idea for it. I would love to be friends, haha. :D shame about all that dislike, then :|

11648744:he can redeem himself at any time if he starts posting here and contributes to the threads

I will not be doing that. I want to, but I don't have time, I have things I want to draw, very little time to draw it, and I don't want to get embroiled in other peoples' comics, stories, etc (I have my own to write and finish, without influence). Moreover, this is a rather arrogant comment. As if I somehow owe you my time in coming over to /mlp/ to post? Why? If this is what the atmosphere is like I'll stick to DA and "Redshit" anyway.

11649119:its just annoying that one of the only artists who still draws browser ponies is someone who almost completely ignores us

I am genuinely sorry. I don't want you to feel that way, and I'm NOT ignoring you. Come talk to me! Drop me a note. Ask me to draw something! If I like it and think it's worth putting off my other stuff I probably will. I'm not ignoring you any more than someone at the opposite end of a building, park, country or planet is ignoring you. I'm just "not there" to pay attention. If we just happen to be hanging out in different places on the net all the time, then so it goes :(

11649181:...He doesn't have to pay attention to us if he doesn't want to, and likewise to us. His art is good, but we shouldn't hound him with every image he makes that fucks with our headcanon of what the pony should look like. If he likes one design for a pony, and decides to run with it, that's his choice. It's just like the two different versions of IE; some anons like the blue-haired version, others like the blonde-haired version. Hell, even I enjoy the design he came up with for Torch; it's an interesting take that's almost completely opposite of what the original thread version was, but the colors and the design still work pretty damn well.

Thank you, Squidward :) you I recognise from the last time I saw an /mlp/ browser thread (around the time of this Torch thing, I believe). Nice chap.

11649263:He didnt have to make our Winnie
But I would have been much happier if he had just come in and gone "hey guys I drew my interpretation of Windows 8"

If he lurks the threads then he could have at least given us that courtesy. In fact if he had then we could have given him praise, critique etc

Thank you for the suggestion. I don't suppose this comment applies as again, I haven't been lurking. I didn't think you guys cared for my input anyway! You seemed to be doing great on your own. Besides it's sort of just easier for me to dump my art on DA and call it a day. I don't lurk, if I'm hanging around I'm posting. I'm hard to keep quiet :D so you'd know if I were there.

11649351:>>11649181
dont worry squiddy
none of us are big enough assholes to spam his DA page or anything
he will remain unaware of us if he chooses it

i really hope he makes more actual browsers though, the mane 5 need more art

THANK YOU for not spamming my DA page, even if I upset you. I really, really appreciate it. And I agree, the mane 5 do need more art. More art is coming :) I am not switching "themes" or anything. As far as I am concerned, these are all one and the same to me. Besides that, there is a massive list of stuff to do in general, and the order in which it gets done is quite random. There's more Mane 5 MLW stuff, standard MLP stuff, more "app" icons, etc etc.

11649434:...Im thinking as a pony gets popular here its only a matter of time till parallax does it since Torch and Winnie are probably our current favourites

This concerns me too, if people are reading /mlp/ and then coming to me to request stuff. I can see how it looks. I'm not sure what to do about it though. I don't want to have to scour the Internet every time I want to fulfil a request, or draw an idea of my own, just in case someone else has just made their own piece. Nor do I want to be ignoring requests or second-guessing my own ideas "just in case" you are busy with the same idea.

11650396:>>11649377
yeah opera does need more pics

Noted :) Opera is my favourite. What kind of pics? Standalone pics, I assume?

11649443:>>11649434
how long before he does his version of Oz?

we now know he does OS, so how long before he comes after iOS

...iOS was on my list :( as was OS X, and a lot of other operating systems. Argh, this is the kind of crap I'm talking about. You are free to make your own images as I am free to make mine! It shouldn't be an issue. Adopt what you like, ignore what you don't! I'm not trying to steamroller anyone's headcanon with my art. I'm not trying to shit on your ideas, copy you, or pander to the crowd with "popular" designs. I apologise if I've been appearing to do so.

...What is Oz?

11653710:>>11653786 >>11673330
OH BOY this blew up overnight. I will talk to Parallax and see if he will get his ass in here. XD

11653786:>>11653710
Best of luck with that. I doubt he'll show up here.
Ask him how much his version of W8 was inspired by Winie.

Metri was not inspired by Winie (Winie is a cute name!). I first heard about Winie today. She looks great, by the way!

As far as I can tell Winie and Metri seem really different, apart from part of the mane colour, which I believe was eyedropped from the logo like mine anyway so inevitable, and the basic concept filly for a young OS and blue body which are also logical conclusions to draw without needing to copy anyone. I don't see any other similarities. (Winie... ah, that's cute.) My original concept for Metri was going to be even more divergent - it involved her having curly hair, not unlike Sweetie Belle's... except I decided it needed to be boxy and angular, not curvy and bouncy.

Check out this crappy draft, here's where I was originally going with Metri:

Winie has interesting eyes. Comments in the thread say that was to keep the colours from mashing together on the body. I'd agree this is a good idea, as making Aeris was hard. None of those colours are designed to sit together and make sense.

11655552:I'd rather he **** off and stay away, we don't need a circlejerk around ONE ****ing person, thats what starts drama and kills threads

:| Wish granted, I suppose. Though it seems there is plenty of drama already... but I guess that was your point?

11663534:I was wondering something... who made the first browser pony thread?

I talk to the guy who made the first thread regularly. He says he posted it anyway... kind of hard to prove either way :D He is a cool guy, very talkative and friendly, very nice to talk to. He was the one to alert me to the threads in the first place. I suppose since he posted as Anon he will remain as such (sorry).

In summary:

  • I don't hate you guys or hold anything against you. I see where you're coming from. I would like to be friends. Many of you don't seem to care either way, and some even defended or complimented me/my work, so thanks for that. :)
  • Drop me a note if you ever have questions or want to talk. I'm not trying to ignore anyone or disregard their feelings/opinions or anything. I am VERY friendly, so go for it. I am open to talking and things, or taking requests if I like them, or whatever, but you'll probably need to get in touch with me here or on "Redshit". I am like a reclusive Internet hobbit.
  • I don't assume you want to adopt my vision for what a character should look like, nor do I expect you to. I'm one guy with a small DA account. I make art I like and I post it. It's that simple. The idea of "browser/digital ponies" was around before me. My first experience was encountering the Firefox and Chrome icons, and soon thereafter IE. They were brilliant and inspiring! So I made some more, and had some ideas for comics and stuff. I doubt I was the only one?

  • I'm not here to screw with your headcanon for these characters, either. I don't want to upset people, I don't want to mess with your stuff, I don't want to steamroll your ideas with my own. My sincerest apologies, if I've managed to do any of those things by accident!

  • I do not "lurk" on threads and watch what people are doing and then nick their ideas. And because I don't lurk, I can't be expected to know what you're up to, or be expected to check, or keep some sort of checklist. I take great pride in making my stuff unique and my ideas my own. How can I do that if I'm constantly being exposed to other peoples' stuff? :)

  • Only two people ever have directly talked to me about /mlp/ browser threads on here. I get almost zero exposure to /mlp/. There is no bridge between us beyond what people choose to cross-post over there. You don't have to endure my stuff if you don't want to and nobody posts it! I'm not forcing it on you.

  • I'm probably still not going to get involved in your threads. Some of you don't seem to want me there, the content is not entirely my kind of thing, I shouldn't view most of it anyway because of my own stupid rules about "exposure" and copying, and I still believe I will annoy less people by not getting involved as opposed to joining your community. Besides it seems you are well underway with your own ideas and projects that have little to do with me! :) let me reiterate that I will not ignore you if you want to get in touch. Beyond that I can't magically see what you're up to though.
  • Thank you for reading! Sorry it's so long. I hope some of you at least feel a bit better now. If you are still mad/disappointed/annoyed, I'm still sorry. I didn't mean to upset anyone. I love pleasing people. Maybe drop me a note or something and we can talk about it if you're really pissed!
That is all! :D

Wow. I followed those threads a while ago, took a break and suddenly some of them are claiming you stole ideas? Heh, sounds like a vocal minority spreading drama (the joys of anon).

I mean, everyone's taking inspiration from the same source, of course there's going to be similarities.

More or less, but the reason why they made the claims was because on more than one occasion I came out with something around the same time they did, which happened to be about the same sort of thing. Can't hold it against them really, though I wish they'd just asked me...

I say "more than one occasion", far as I am aware there were precisely two occasions, first of which was Torch and the second was this My Little Windows thing I put out recently (as they had just/recently designed their own Windows characters and even come to similar conclusions on how they should be designed). As well as general animosity over my appearing to be lurking, but not contributing and only posting my stuff over here.

Anyway all cleared up now hopefully, and we can all get back to having fun!

I've been browsing 4chan for years (mostly /tg/), and even I don't like going into the cesspit that is /mlp/. You're a braver man than I.

Also, I agree that Opera needs more art. She is best pony, after all.

So yeah, far as I'm concerned we're good!

Wait....4Chan still exists?

everything I could say has already been said.

so i'm shorthanding it.

4Chan is a bunch of 10-12 year olds troll flamers and drama queens (with a few exceptions) who go on to the site because they see their friends on it or their friends told them too (it happened to me though I left afterward >.>) The few adults do one of two things #1 try to make everything worse #2 try to sage everyone else #3 act their age and maturity.

Assuming that 4chan is the insides of the internet, allow me to make a metaphor:

The internet is a housepet. It responds to us if we need it to, and it's a source of companionship. If you then cut it open and look inside, your friends are going to stop visiting, and the police will start visiting.

hey Parallax i'm from /MLP/ and i would like to voice my discontent towards you and your artwork...
jokes, i'm not one of them and i just found out about them just now from you
i'm just a passer by that really doesn't want to get involved but i noticed you are in quite a pickle and i can't seem to leave that alone so i taught i could say a few words that may or may not help, that's up to you
here comes the oil
1# no offense, but technically u guys just got ideas from one source.. so it is almost expected for something like this to happen :ohnoes:
2# misunderstandings like this always happen, so it's up to you to get around it.
and here comes the match
3# i kind of agree that it almost seems like they think you owe them posts and update on their thread.. heck, this is a free world, we can do whatever we want.
4# To the /MLP/, i know it is a little annoying when someone "uses" your idea as you've said it but you took it from a single source. what? you weren't expecting for other people to get the same bright idea?:stare: *points back at 1#*
about the colour schemes...muuuurghwelp parallaxMLP, your on ur own on this one,
it's debatable.
5# srry if me little rant has caused some kind of confusion and sparked some war someplace else god knows why... i was merely stating what i taught after reading your post, i mean no harm whatsoever
please don't hurt me :fear:
6# i like egg tarts :la:
7# custard goes good with chocolate :happybounce:
8# people in the world are weird these days -,-"
9# i procrastinate :XD:
10# srry, was running out of points to elaborate on :p i'll be off then :sprint:

Not-so-important 'namefag' -- as they call me elsewhere on the board -- from the /mlp/ thread here. Thank you for handling this so well -- I had just gotten there when the argument was at its climax, having not heard of it but just doing my rounds of the board. I was not talking about you. I'm glad this happened so it can blow over just a little bit quicker than it would have had you not. I wouldn't have wanted to arrive in the middle of the drama and have to ask twenty questions or more to get an answer out of anybody.

Personally, I'm not concerned and I wasn't very pissed, per se, when I saw the different designs on your photo. It's nice to see that people are doing their own designs -- damn, I've seen so many iterations of, for example, Rainbow Dash, in art styles and hair color alterations. People get really sensitive about the position of the colors.

Also, it seems the whole thing is calm water under the bridge once you've posted. Hardly even a current anymore. People are going back to their normal discussions.

P.S, no matter how adorable the name and design of Winnie is... Her personality is very... Sultry, we'll leave it at that. She's definitely a naughty filly. ^^

Yeah, stuff like this makes me iffy about /mlp/. I visit it from time to time, but some of the stuff like that kind of irritates me because it just sounds like people hiding behind the anon mask and saying whatever the heck they want.

I find myself having to design some ponies (Like Amalthea from The Last Unicorn, more recently). I think the way that I differ from you though when I am dealing with something that has probably been made before, I actually do look at others renditions of it. That way, I can make mine more unique and still have that original flavor that I like to get. But then again, maybe I see something I like from someone else. I wouldn't just downright slap it on mine, but alter it into my own style and adaptation, but not a flat out duplicate.

But we're all different anyway :)

Hello, I've not spoken to you before, just a lurker, but I have to say something about this.

It's very sad that this is brought up at all. When you're working with pre-existing images or ideas (referring to the browsers themselves) then you already are going to have a set color roster and design ideas are in slight limitation. Like pressing the randomizer button for an avatar on a game, there is always a possibility of two characters looking alike or similar. And with the browsers being ponies, there are certain means of getting the appearance and style. So, in short, of COURSE these characters are going to have similarities! The only coincidence is the timing in all this. But I could definitely see people from over there coming over here and making requests. Some just to stir up trouble, but most just because they wanted to see what your take on the character would be.

I suggest that you make a rule. When requests for browser ponies are made, the requester must inform you of where the idea came from. If they got it from there, then post a notification here, or even post on their thread letting them know that you have been given a request for the pony and the requester got the idea from their pony.

Overall, this is why I stay away from 4Chan. I've heard nothing but negativity come from people who have experienced the site. I've heard many times that the people there are incredibly rude. All websites have both kind and rude people, but it just appears that there are more there and I'm too sensitive to be around that much. Strong person you are to take this so well when they are being so rude to you without ASKING you what really happened. I hate it when people jump to conclusions. I do hope this all goes well for you and that they are understanding. (: Keep up the awesome work!

Not quite. He started something, we saw it, we made a thread loosely based on the concept, both grew into their own separate things.

Then a few requests he does look strikingly similar to designs over in the browser pony thread on /mlp/, and some Anons jump to quick conclusions. Not all of them. He's not stealing OUR stuff, because neither one "owns" the stuff. But the designs were a strange coincidence. Nothing more.

It's the people on both sides flinging shit to make the other side mad that's the problem. Like we do on the 4chan thread, it's best to just ignore it. In this case, Parallax nipped it in the bud before it exploded into something that could have been much worse of a storm than it was. Good on him.

I am terribly sorry about all of this...
I guess I should confess to some of this crap...
I AM the informer.
I was the one who made the first browser pony thread.
And the next one... and the next one... Etc.
And then I was busy with school and stuff and I had no idea what would become of the whole thing.
So I came back to the whole thing at around topic number 10.
Squidward took over.
Oh wow! My little thread has made it so far!
A couple days later: Oh wow! My thread made it into a thread simulator (Good thing? Bad thing?)
So I joined in on the crap for a while, there were HUGE Skype chats dedicated to the browser pony threads.
I had no idea that one little thread with eight words in it would spark something this huge.
I had no idea this would turn into a hate-fest and piss everyone off.
Things looked like they were going pretty alright up until now.
Once again, I am really, sincerely sorry for causing all of this. I look back and I realize this could have been prevented by me just not clicking a button.
You might not hear from me for a while...
I hope everyone across 4chan, DA, And any other place this has effected will forgive me...

Sincerely ~TheGraphitePhoto/GraphiteAchasse/Graphite/The OP

Graphite, quit with the drama shit. You might be the informer. You might be the OP for all I care. But you're acting immature about it. If you're wanting to leave, then leave. Don't shit on the floor of the house you apparently had the original deed to.

Also, one reason I know your bullshitting is because of the whole "explosion" of popularity you're making it. There are no HUGE Skype chats, there's like 6-7 people that actually contribute and 1-2 people that just lurk and comment. That's it. We're a small community. Things are still going fine. We will move on, with or without you or Parallax there, just like we always have. We survived the Scruffening, we can survive this small bit of drama.

You can't blame yourself for the insensitiveties of others. Many people live with a sense of entitlement and, as I mentioned in my stand alone post, when working with something like Browsers, you kind of have design and color limitations. The only coincidence was timing and the requests could either be people stirring up trouble, or just wanting to see what someone else's take on the characters would look like. Either way, it wasn't worth getting all stirred up over and, since both ponies and browsers are trademarked/copyrighted on their own...well, I guess no one has anything to complain over. After all, neither concept "belongs" to anyone except the original owners and founders. But it's not your fault. Anything that is done can stir up problems when the right people get involved. Don't hide yourself away. (:

Glad the air's clear! Was worried things would come to a boil and things wouldn't get better...

Also, I doubt the person claiming to be the OP of the browser ponies is the real OP; that's a pretty far-fetched statement.

Squidward here, by the way. Glad you remembered me from last time! :) And just as a nod to you and your design, I'd like to say that your version of Torch might be making a small appearance in the next fiction I'm writing.

Yo Squidward! :D thanks for getting in touch. I appreciate the feedback. I hope everyone is a little happier and there will be less thread derailing and so on in the future. :)

Hey, that's awesome about Candela (uh, Torch!)!! I hope that doesn't wind up fans of the other character :( I hear you are quite the writer, yes! Rather risqué writing as well, so I hear ;)

I do want to indulge in the content on /mlp/ and other sites and things, fics, pics and all, it's just my stupid rules stopping me. I hope people understand where I'm coming from on that. I want my ideas to feel like my own. If someone's done it first, or has similar ideas, I don't want to know about it, I want a clean-slate view where I can work things out on my own without influence or suggestion. I may not be phrasing that very well but I hope people get that it's not about ignoring them or not liking/caring about/wanting to see their stuff.

When I'm happy with Websurfers and have nailed out most of the story perhaps I can start exploring! Won't be such an issue then, when I have a roadmap finalised for the comic. But it's early days, for now...

Yeah, everything's more or less calmed down now, we're back to posting art and stuff.

And yes, I do indulge in the more... "dirty" side of writing, but don't worry. Candela ain't gonna be touched by my writing hand in that regard (yet... Who knows?).

As far as indulging in content, don't worry about it! It's likely that by the time MLWS is at a good point where you've established everything you want and are free to explore, we'll still be around and kicking. And remember... we've got our eye on you, so to speak. ;)

Oo-er :D am I being watched, haha? Very well! Talk to me if there are any problems though. Or if you have requests. I AM drawing more Opera, for example :)

Maybe I should divulge in private some more info on what I planned for MLW and where I wanted to go with it, so I sort of have a few "witnesses" or something lest any issues kick off in the future, but don't spoil things for the public :D it's silly that that should be necessary though, and I suppose it isn't really necessary now we're all cool. (have to say, the comments in this journal post are a little surprising... didn't think there was that much vitriol here on DA, but I get it, it's a frustrating subject for everyone ^^; yikes).

If you want to write dirty things involving Candela... go for it :D why not. Though for the purposes of MLW it won't apply to my personal canon, and again I can't be reading any fics any time soon, as you understand :)

There will be a lot of catching up for me to do in the far future, I expect! Fun times.

Indeed, and we look forward to seeing where you go with your comic!

(And yeah. A lot of the comments on here kind of explain why I don't post hardly anything to dA anymore...)

Let them say what they say there just the bad part of the bronies (in my retro-spec) that get mad at "oh you did this (yada yada yada) and you stole my this , i came up with this first." So WHO CARES we all love the show and we all show are appreciation of the show in the different ways, FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC not FRIENDSHIP IS *MOMMY HE STOLE MY IDEA.* If so make anther one move on there are Millions of possibility's no one has tried. If we just sat at our computers everyday and complain at each other :typerhappy: non-stop we as a fandom would crash. But since or fandom is based off of friendship we are a lot powerful then most fan-bases. My bottom line is if your going to go complain go outside yell out loud until your neighbors tell you to shut up, drink some chocolate milk, go window looking. And if your still upset write in a Journal/Diary. Because I've seen some of fandoms fall apart over silly stuff like this.

Dear Celestia,

I learned that if some one has the same ideas as you, you are supposed get mad at them too and argue at each other until it makes you a bitter person. :icontwilightsparklenoplz:

Ignore the idiots. You never know whether they are just being being idiots or badly attempt to troll.

/mlp/ appreciates short, honest words. You'll never be able to silence all critics, but you don't have to, either. The worst thing you can do is engage in open discussion. Most people over there, believe it or not, hate drama and could care less about any specific person.

So yeah, that's that.

PS: Need git pony! :3

This. We love that you made the post clearing the air. And we hate drama and could care less about it and everything this person said.

Honestly? I don't get what all of the hubbub was about with the whole Win7 and Win8 ponies anyway, and I don't care. After being on /mlp/ for over a year and a half I'm pretty content with any art/fanfiction that is presented, because it is still creative content.

What's most upsetting to me is that they claim you're "stealing". Not "taking inspiration from" or "putting your own spin on it", but stealing their ideas.

That kind of language smacks of insult towards your own creative ability, as if you owe it to /mlp/ for most, if not all your designs. I've been taught to expect the best out of people, but...they're pushing that envelope a bit >_>.

You handled this extremely well, though. I'll keep rooting for you.

This journal makes me sad.. Just to think that you spent all this time on writing it, when you could spend it on drawing ponies :)

PS. I second that Opera needs more art of her ^^

This sums up why I was never able to get into /mlp/. There's some great stuff over there, but the atmosphere can be off-putting.

Scrapping my original rant, I'll just say that there are some things out there that I don't think you can really claim rights on. Ponifying various products and background genderbends I just don't think are unique enough of an idea. It's a big fandom, meaning it's almost inevitable two people will come up with the same idea, and the common source material means artists in a vacuum would probably end up in a similar place. And if you do make that claim, what do you gain in the end anyways?

You shouldn't give a damn about it. MLP has a history of enjoying being anonymous to hate on everyone out in the word.

I think 4chan can go buck themselves.

4chan tend to work like this, they list every single idea in a thread, and if someone does anything they refer to their old thread where no silly human did any of them for real and all it their ideas.

Ye, I think I saw some concepts for browser and other icons long before you did yours. Like an edited version of the firefox logo (before you even made your dA account, and I made mine, and before I even heard of G4 ponies!).

As you grow more famous, you also get more haters. So is the law of the internet.

I prefer your stuff over crappy 4chan stuff. 4chan is not exactly famous for it's serious threads....
