My first attempt at a lemon cane. Not my first attempt at canes, or even a citrus cane (Exhibit A: Orange Cane (Tutorial) [link]), but I tried some new things with this one.

I used a different technique for making the individual sections of the fruit.

I tried different methods of texturing for the individual slices (I used tinfoil, toothpicks, a needle, and a toothbrush).

After I began cutting the cane, I realized there were some issues with my method in rolling out the cane, which caused some of the slices to look twisted in the middle.

Also, I ran out of translucent clay, so the slices aren't as translucent as I wanted them to be.

Moral of the story, this was kind of an experiment and now I think I know what I can do better next time, and hopefully I'll be able to make a better citrus cane tutorial than the one I've already got. :)

i'm sorry. :( yeah, this is just my first attempt at citrus and i've done lots of other canes, too. my first few attempts at the cane technique were kind of train wrecks. i'm going to start working on a tutorial for this one as soon as midterms are over. :yum:

yeah, that happens to me a lot, too. I've found that they tend to look more twisted in the middle if I'm using both hands to roll, and both hands are rolling in opposite directions at the same time, or even if one hand is rolling faster than the other. if there are any gaps or bubbles, or even if the clay isn't compressed together properly before you start to roll it out into a thin cane, this can cause distortion and it can even cause your cane to fall apart from the inside out. hope that helps. :) I'll be making a lemon cane tutorial soon and i'll try to go into detail, with pictures, about how to roll out a millefiori cane :)
