Golduck - Aqua Tail

Golduck performing the move Aqua Tail. A piece I did for :icongame-art-hq: Game Art HQ's Pokémon Art Collaboration .

Golduck was always one of my favorite Pokémon.

I always loved how Golduck has that cool surfer stance, so I wanted to integrate that into the image. This gave me the idea of letter the water swirl around him a bit. I also like how some Pokémon cards, like Misty's Golduck, have four fingers instead of three, So I gave this one four as well.

As for the art style influences, I've been listening to a lot of Legend Of Zelda : The Wind Waker music lately, and the character art for that game is phenomenal. So I liked mixing that jaggy lifework in with the Pokémon anime style. I faceted the gem on his forehead, since I felt that it matched better with the style I was going for.

Leave a comment if you'd like to share what you think of it, and thanks for watching!

Cheers!

PS: Check out the project for yourself, and see if you can still pick one! All 151 original Pokémon, + Missingno, are drawn twice, and they'll be placed in dedicated galleries on the Game Art HQ website.

Thank you! :D It was way jaggier at first, but I think I managed to make it look a bit more fluid in the end.

Thanks again :D I do feel like it works better with a dark background like this version , but the collaboration rules state that the background has the be transparent. So I've uploaded both :)

I like both, but I see what you mean. It gives it nice contrast.
