How to color with Painter IX? by panda89 How to color with Painter IX? by panda89
This is the first tutorial I have ever made.
It explains how to color in Painter IX.

I once had many problems with the coloration of my artworks,
but unfortunately there weren't any Painter tutorials!
So i asked peoples and tried some of the functions there.

I really dont want you to waste your time, so i wrote the tutorial!
Hope, it helps you and you like it. =)

"(step 1)
at the beginning I have 2 layers:
the outlines/lineart as multiple layer and under that the layer with the main color green (no shadows/lightning yet and it's better to clean up the edges of the color-layer on this step, so you dont need to use the eraser that often anymore).
After that you click on "preserver transparency" on the color-layer (which i have regrettably found out after i have drawn this tutorial).

(step 2)
now add some more "maincolors" like yellow/green for the lightning, usual green and blue green for the cold reflection with the: "oil pastel - chunky brush" low opacity and also quite low resat (0% resat = mixing colors; 100% resat = not mixing).

The following step is mixing the colors with 0% resat and then it looks like the screenshot on step 3!
on step 4 you use the blender with 0% resat again, which makes the color-area really smooth.

Then I have added some more details, the result can be seen here:
:thumb17619334:"

PS:
You can upload the tutorial on your server, but
please don't change/delete the copyright on the side!!
Thanks.

I have the same program but when I color on the layers the color goes over the lineart of my canvas layer. Do you have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong or how it can be fixed?

The tutorial was extremely helpful... so huge barrels of 'thank you' to you.

I've been struggling with Painter for a few weeks now and was quickly coming to two conclusions. 1) I'm an idiot. 2) I have no artistic ability whatsoever. I've read a myriad of tutorials on the subject and was no nearer to figuring out what my problem was. Then I got to this one and everything started to make sense. Don't know why, but the technique you outline above just clicked with me and the piece I'm working on is actually starting to come together. I'm sure I've got a thousand more pitfalls and dead-ends to negotiate before I actually come out with something I'm happy with, but at least now, I've got a starting point.

Apologies for the rambling nature of this post...

I look forward to seeing more tutorials from your good self.

My thanks, again...

Bleed = kein plan
Jitter = lässt den brush so zitterhaft zeichnen
Grain = brush + noise effect

Could be useful, but I find it difficult to follow. Maybe I'm just dumb. :P

I'm new to Painter, and I did find this through a link from ConceptArt.org, so I'll fav this so that I can find it later. But would it be possible to add real text in this and maybe explain what the settings do a little more? Or am I being too greedy...?

:(

Anywho, thanks for the tut, it'll help a bunch on my next Corel adventure.
