Clitennestra by Panaiotis Clitennestra by Panaiotis

I love this portrayal of the Priestess holding her knife.

Perhaps we shall see her perform the "Flowery Death" ceremony?

That is certainly Clytemnestra, a lady one should NEVER bathe around … no wonder there was a Dark Age, Hellenistic Sanitation must have went to the bogs after that little 'accident' of Agamemnon's!CURSE YOU!

On a more serious note, this is a most excellent and imposing illustration of a formidable Queen out of Legend.Nod

Excellent picture. The Minoan/Mycenean costume is wonderful, and the bronze blade a nice touch, too. As you say, she is all too often portrayed in the classical style.

Yes Syltorian,
this is the biggest problem, not only for Clytemnestra. Too often the Homeric epic is represented with classic costumes. But today for me is an historical mistake :)
Very thank you for the appreciation

You're right. It's a big problem for ancient history that people speak of Ancient Greece (or Egypt, or Rome), without realising that these cultures spanned centuries, even over a millenium at times. So long, that even the ancient Greeks of classical times presented the Homeric heroes in too modern a fashion!

You got it right!
Each historical period has added something contemporary of his representation of the ancients. Just look at the great mythological or historical paintings that whenever we find them with armor and equipment according to the historical period in which they were drawn.
The mythological past was too far away to keep a visual memory ... but the oral tradition, of the aedi and rhapsodists like Homer, we got in some way :)
Now we know!
