Autumnal: WIP 2

So I'd like to show some more progress made on this piece: You can see the original line art here and the last WIP shot here Here I am putting focus (obviously?) into the creature itself: I will return to working on the background once I have him mostly fleshed out, so you can expect to see the brighter colors making their way into the background. (In an attempt to keep me from making all those silly mistakes I tend to make. )

I don't think I've used such bright colors in years... I don't know what to think of this as a result, it seems so very different in some ways from my usual work. Also, I don't believe I've ever put such a complicated design into color. It's testing my patience, but at the same time it's very therapeutic and soothing. (Or it would be, if I had more time to actually work on it.)

Most of this is in watercolor (still) and I have been utilizing other media (colored pencil, acrylics, gouache, and ink) as highlights to help my less than masterful watercolor skills. I decided my cheaper brushes weren't doing the trick so I brought out the best ones to work with. Made quite the difference, actually.

Also: Those red scales near his hindquarters look quite a bit like pomegranate seeds. But maybe that works somehow? I also wonder if those yellow "feathers" along his sides are too bright.

During the very end of my work session last night, as my nose was only inches from the paper, an ant fell from above and landed and flailed around on the paper, not too far from where I was working. Not at all relevant, but I thought it was funny at the moment. Go away ants, you are not welcome here!

If anyone sees anything I might have missed, or you have suggestions, critiques, thoughts, etc., go right ahead, they're more than welcome and I'd like to hear them.
