Name: Gargoyleosaurus.

Meaning of name: Hideous statue lizard.
Species: G. parkpinorum.  

Classification: Dinosauria, Ornithischia Nodosauridae.

Time: Kimmeridgian-Tithonian stages of the Late Jurassic.

Distribution: Wyoming, USA.

Length: 3 to 4m

Lifestyle: browser.

 

The fauna includes the Pterosaur Mesadactylus & the Theropod Allosaurus.

The vegetation is mainly Cycads including Encephalartos & Williamsonia.

I find it interesting Ankylosaurs were around this early.

Others include Mymoorapelta & Dracopelta; Arguably Ankyllosaurs pre-date Stegosaurs starting with Scelidosaurus, they were outperformed by the Stegosaurs in the late Jurassic yet ultimately went on to replace them, why?
