Description

As some may know, Nima Sassani and I have had a fairly long disagreement on the position of the nostrils. Such arguments have come up both on his blog and on his deviantArt account.

This image is a synthesis based off of arguments by Witmer (2001) about the true position of the nostrils in sauropods and other dinosaurs.

Obviously, I agree with Witmer who favors a rostral or rotroventral position. This is redrawn with some modifications from Fig. 1 (A) in Witmer (2001).

One question: If the nostril placement of sauropods is near the snout, then why the nasal fenestrae are on top of the head?:confused::?
