Something's Wrong
It was a warm, bright Sunday afternoon. Very much like most Sunday afternoons, actually, save for the key difference that made it unlike other Sunday afternoons. This difference being the small child standing alone in her bedroom, as opposed to running around and savoring the last of the weekend.
She couldn’t have been more than four or five years old; her clothes, mismatched and clashing (she’d dressed herself that morning, she was a big girl now!), bore stains that told of a healthy and active routine. None of that seemed to match the mood hovering about her now. She stood there, peering intensely into a glass bowl perched on a table in front of her. Within the glass bowl floated a single, solitary goldfish; it’s vacant eyes staring blankly outwards.
The goldfish was dead. It hung upside-down in its bowl, lifeless. The girl continued to stand there and look at her beloved pet, trying impossibly hard to grasp what had happened. She couldn’t quite und

The past couple of weeks (and really just the past couple of months in general) have been fairly hectic on my end. Traditional chase season 2017 is winding to a close, however, and so ends my best spring ever. Copy and paste from a Facebook post I made a couple of days ago:

"I find myself reflecting on just how fortunate I was this year. It started rough in March with a series of busts, picking the wrong storms or making choices to leave early due to work. I began to worry that I would have a similar year to 2016, having to decide between work and tornadoes with each setup. I had already racked up numerous call-ins in February due to a bout of the flu and David's hospital stay, so I would have to be very picky when it came to calling in throughout the spring.

Fast-forward to April 14th. It was a Friday, so I was already off work. I spent the morning checking out the Texas Panhandle. The season had been slow enough that it didn't take much convincing to make the drive out for some big hailers. We ventured west and sat in Dimmitt for a while as storms organized on the New Mexico border. The rest is history. "Big hailers" became the storm of the year, and I got my confidence back.

Good fortune continued through the season. In two months, I was able to witness 24 tornadoes in 5 states (3 of which were new tornado states). I finally added June to my tornado months. I got to see new parts of the country, and also add an appreciable amount of purple (tornado counties) to my county map.

All told, 2017 goes down as my best season yet, beating out 2015 in quantity and quality of tornadoes. I'm sure 2018 will come knocking with reminders of what chasing is really supposed to be like, but it was a nice change of pace having a season where most everything went right, both in chasing and in life.

Hopefully fall brings more of the same surprises and 2018 brings fewer busted forecasts."

I was able to swing the drive to Colorado/Wyoming/Nebraska on June 12th, where I witnessed my first June tornadoes. I have yet to fine-tune a total as right after that, we drove to Florida for a week-long vacation. It's nice to finally be home and able to relax, if only for a couple of days; perhaps a journey back north for more chasing on Thursday. I'm eager to go through some pictures from this spring as I have a pretty major backlog right now. Stay tuned for some uploads here, or follow/add me on Facebook if you don't like to wait!

Also, I apparently achieved ten years on dA on June 11th. Can't believe I've spent a decade on this site. That's nearly half my life!

Hey there, Paige! Long time no talk! How have you been in this last period? Did the fall season bring something interesting? I know that there was an EF1 tornado in Norman. Another thing: I wanted to hear your expectations and opinions about May 18th. I recently found your video of that day while I was surfing the internet and... yeah, I just wanted to hear your story. :D Also, your boyfriend seemed a bit pissed off about tornadoes lifting before crossing the road. :XD:
