[PotA] Refuge
The Iluq Forest was quiet in the golden hush of the late summer afternoon, the air thick with the scent of pine and warm earth. Soft shafts of sunlight filtered through the tree branches, painting a delicate pattern of shadows on the forest floor. Hayes padded quietly across the soft, mossy ground, her ears alert and stance confident. Her albino deer companion moved gracefully beside her, ever watchful as he scanned the trees. His steps were silent as he moved over tree roots and low brush, a light breeze stirring them around them and carrying the distant call of birds and the hum of insects. Behind the pair, Kal adjusted the strap of his backpack and took a sip of water from the bottle he carried, the handler already a little worn out from their very brief stint in the Iluq Forest that had started earlier that morning.
“You two are going to make me look bad again, aren’t you?” the handler laughed, poking fun at himself.
Hayes offered a soft huff, amused, as she pressed forward.
