bingo!! you got it again!! very impressive work--am so happy to see the texture. have you ever tried using salt or sand in your watercolour (someday i'll remember to spell it right!)? or bleach? very interesting patterns--use different kinds and textures of salt, splash a little bleach on large spaces of color. hehehe--you prob already know that. :) j

Yes, I've tried salt - wasn't too happy with the results though: this is the tropics = high humidity - that blasted salt never really dried!
If I want to create these kind of intentional little back-runs I simply spray water when the sheen has gone off the paint - very nearly the same effect.

Sand? With watercolours? Wouldn't it fall off? Or do you glue it on?
Definitely something to look into..... hmmmmmm ;)

I've tried rubbing alcohol but never bleach - that's onother one I'll have to give a go!

Thanks for the input, dear fellow-experimenter!

oooh I love this! I see in this abstract picture with lovely texture...a galaxy being born in some far distant corner of the universe. It makes me feel calm and peaceful but the textures also add interest and movement to the piece and the variety of colours move my eye around the paper. Wonderful! ^^

You seem to be having much fun with these! In this one I see an animals head with a long snout...I love the colours you are using, what makes it so luminous?

I do! Messing around and just letting rip IS a lot of fun! You should give it a try some time! ;)
As to being luminous...... well, I suppose it's the contrast between very light and very dark colours, and part of it might also be due to the glued-on eggshells not totally covered by paint.

Bravo for your experiments:clap: I really like the bottom portion where blue turns to purple then to yellow orange. That portion is pretty. The upperleft is dark, is it the effect you created or is it due to photography?

Hi Pat! I am preparing for the week Tuscany, leaving Friday! The heatwave is over by now....We had a heatwave for 18 days which is "quite unusual" for Netherlands. We enjoyed it a lot (well, not all of us, like elderly people), living outside! It's rainy now and we live inside again...waiting to leave Fridaymorning, again looking for the sun! I have prepared all my paintingstuff!
O.k. just keep messing around, and entertain me more with it! (Am hoping to find a note with the price you want for the Collage in Blue and Yellow)....I can wait though!

Would love to know more about the process of your messing around. How does such an idea get born? And how do you get along, like with the egg shells!?? How long does it take you, making such a mess (pffff)?

I imagine the series of your abstracts hanging on a long, white wall....Seems you are inspired enough to make an exhibition out of them? "P-e-a-k Messing Around, come and see"! Amsterdam would be a fine place for you to exhibit! :)

Tuscany! You lucky girl, you! I wish you a safe trip, have a lovely time, and I hope you come back with lots of new paintings/ inspiration to share with us!

Note re: price - OK, will put my thinking-cap on, promise! ;)

The process of messing around.....
It's hard to describe. There is no "idea", not really - that blooming white paper (or gesso-ed-over old dog) just stares back at me..... Then, in desparation, I stick some bits of rice paper on it, or eggshells, or sand, or I paint some squiggles with gesso - anything. Then I put the thing on my easel.... and look at it, and then I turn it upside-down and look some more..... until finally the blooming thing starts "talking" to me..... and then I just take it from there.
If you now think that I'm certifiable.... well, I guess you're not too far off.
Anyway I have a terribly hard time doing abstracts - NOT at all my cup of tea! Sometimes it takes days to come up with something.

Yes, a series of abstracts hanging on a white wall - wouldn't that be great!? That's my dream! The problem is, watercolour might not be the best medium for this. To my thinking, abstracts should be BIG. Big watercolours = very expensive to frame, plus they must be under glass - another drawback.
I tried acrylics on canvas..... and found out that the stupid paint just sits there, doing NOTHING on it's own. There is no "magic" like with watercolours, where the picture practically paints itself.
So - I'm afraid Amsterdam will have to wait a bit longer!

Here is the lucky girl! Leaving for Tuscany in the morning! all is set and ready! So I can play around on DA for a while now!
Thanks for thinking on the price....:) when I come back I hope to find an answer!
It's interesting to read about the process of making the abstract works. You have a very nice writingstyle as well btw! I enjoy reading your comments a lot.
I had to laugh about the static acrylics instead of the "selfworking" watercolours. Practically paints itself.....haha.
Amsterdam can wait a bit longer :pissedoff: :chainsaw: okidoki! Have a good week!
