Good vs. Bad Mental Health Professionals My five years of depression were a hellish experience, but they DID leave me with profound knowledge and the sharpest bullshit detector on Earth. All those years of incompetent therapists and so-called "mental health experts", before finally finding Lawrence Leyton's The Serenity Method, and later Tim Han's LMA Course—taught me exactly how to tell a good professional from a bad one. So here is my personal checklist of how to tell the difference between a real mental health professional and a fraud. 1. Do they take initiative, or do they expect you to tell them what to do? A good mental health professional will take the lead from the get-go—because they know what they're doing. A bad one will expect you to take the lead—basically asking you to walk them through what's supposed to be their job. I can't tell you how many times I was asked the question: "What do you want me to do?" and made to feel like the problem for not knowing the answer
