When the news of a greenlit 'Alien 5' hit the internet in February of 2015, I along with many others were floored by it. It seemed almost like an apology for what happened to the Alien franchise, particularly after release of the "love it or hate it" prequel 'Prometheus'.
Director Neill Blomkamp posted several conceptual images to his Instagram that he commissioned from artist Geoffroy Thoorens depicting some very familiar people, places, & things from the world of 'Alien' but each with his own twist.
The one image that *IMMEDIATELY* blew me away was one I could only describe as "RIPLIEN" (Ripley+Alien, pronouce: "rip lee inn") with Ripley appearing to be part xenomorph with text on the side reading; "Space Jockey"...
SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!
*Is this legit, or part of a dream sequence while in cryosleep?
*Is this a further mutation/evolution of the Ripley clone from Alien: Ressurection?
*Or is this film retconning Alien3 & Ressurection, & this is the original Ripley?
And if so-- How'd she get like this?!?!
*Could it be a manufactured wearable "xeno-suit" that acts as an "alien disguise" like the Colonial Marine "ATAX" action figure from the old Kenner line of toys???
*If it is a suit, could it be a "flightsuit" as the image says "Space Jockey", does this mean Ripley can now pilot Alien craft, like the derelict Juggernaut on LV-426?
*Does this further change what we know about Xenomorph physiology/sociology? Can a host or a drone be simply *MADE* into a "Space Jockey"???
*Can the relationship between the xenomorph & host no longer be limited to merely a parasitic one, or is there possible room for a more symbiotic relationship between the two life forms?
*What of "The Engineers" from Prometheus, how do they fit into all of this???
Well, that last question is what might have torpedoed the whole thing, as news later broke that the script would have to be changed at Ridley Scott's request so as not to interfere with "Prometheus 2", now titled "Alien: Covenant".
Then further news broke that Blomkamp's film would have to be pushed back due to a trilogy of Prometheus sequels emerging (WTF???).
And finally in 2016 the Blomkamp project appeared to be dead, with Blomkamp himself tweeting:
"Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore... Woulda rocked"
Regardless of what the movie would of been like (I doubt it would have been worse than what we got with Prometheus), I thought to myself; if all else failed, at least NECA would make a *BAD ASS* figure of the "RIPLIEN"...
But that's not gonna happen now.
So, I basically had to say screw it, and make her myself!
So here she is complete with a removable translucent dome & face mask for "Space Jockey" mode, just like in the conceptual art.
Wasn't sure of what she should look like below the upper torso, so I took my own creative liberties with that making her very much a "prickly" creature by having spikes & blades protruding from her elbow & knee joints.
Those sharp additions fit in well with the design scheme of the Kenner "Scorpion" Alien that I used parts from in this build.
The xeno tail was removed as well, in hopes of getting better sitting poses & to help make her unique.
I also used Kenner's Queen Alien as a basis for her lower legs, giving her feet "high heels" but redesigned with the heels themselves actually acting as opposable digits adorned with sharp claws, so its essentially a fifth toe.
In the upper right image you can see I removed the traditional breathing apparatus found on the back of a xeno, in exchange for a feature where the hose running from the attachable face mask connects into a hole in the ribcage assembly & then threads through the bottom and ends in a "plug" which can be inserted into another hole located on her lower pelvis...which is...
...Lets just say it connects in a rather "suggestive" manner.
Hey, what do you expect, I'm thinking like Giger!
Been working on this since early last year, & tried to get it done in time for "Alien Day" (4/26) 2016, but no such luck.
You just can't rush art.
At least it's ready for 4/26 of *this* year!
Here are several additional shots of The Riplien...
I'll leave you with a quote that I find rather apropos of Blomkamp's "Riplien";

I would like to add your figure to my xenomorph EU size chart: Xenomorph Size Chart - Expanded Universe
Would you like to add your figure?
If you say yes i need a good clean picture of the figure.
Lighted like the ones i can see in the upper right.
But the view on the figure more like a littel turn to the left. You can see the perspective on my size chart.
Also, I may do a story about her transformation into a queen at some point.
There's an angsty poeticism to it.
Option 1: The WY guys stop Ripley from falling into the lava, she grows attached to her alien baby, gives birth to the queen, and escapes.
Option 2: The WY guys manage to save Ripley from after her fall, but the queen is dead. Ripley then begins to turn into an alien herself due to the Horizontal Gene Transfer.
