Description
This was my first trip to Thailand. What a wonderful place! We were staying in Khaolak, one of the worst hit areas in the 2004 tsunami. Looking at Khaolak now you would hardly know the events that took place almost 10 years ago. There is miles of pristine beaches and a thriving market. Of course there is reminders of the disaster, pictures pinned on trees of people that had been swept away and a military boat that had been out at sea now sitting 2 kilometers inshore in the town of Khaloak!
I love thunderstorms! Im not sure what it is but I have always loved them. Even as a kid I would sit in the window and watch them as they passed.
On this evening we had gone out for a cocktail on the beach just next to where we were staying. You could feel the air was charged and there was lightening nearby (not uncommon in the sort time we had spent in Thailand). Just as we sat down the clouds begun to pass over the mountains and reach out over the ocean towards India. I set my camera up next to the table and kept hitting the shutter in anticipation of lightening strikes whilst enjoying a cocktail on the beach. The storm just missed us, giving us the most incredible view as the sun set through the storm clouds. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the boats on the horizon as the electrically charged clouds headed their way.
