Description

Pyroraptor olympius is a very scrappy dromaeosaurid of uncertain affinities known from the Late Cretaceous of modern day France and Spain. And when I say scrappy, I mean the dictionary definition of consisting of disorganized and incomplete parts. In fact we can't even be entirely sure if all the parts assigned to this taxon really represent Pyroraptor remains, or if certain other specimens now assigned to other taxa should be reassigned to Pyroraptor.

With the Pyroraptor material being such a mishmash of separate pieces that almost certainly come from several individuals, and it's exact place in the cladogram is unknown, I had to go for a somewhat generic dromaeosaurid bodyplan here. The scaling is based on the paratype specimens, including the larger of the originally described unguals. Due to lack of photographs and/or contradicting scale bars and lack of exact measurements I had to leave out several skeletal elements found since, as their dimensions couldn't be accurately estimated.

My plan was to follow up Atrociraptor almost immediately with Pyroraptor which I had already made sketches of based on the original skeletal from the Allain & Taquet (2000) paper, but after gaining access to photos of the original fossils and two sources of (unfortunately incompatible) measurements I had to go through several iterations before I could be fairly confident that this represents an accurate picture of the dimensions of Pyroraptor as we know it today.
