Commonwealth of People's Republics

For more than a century had the Polish nation suffered under the grip of foreign powers, but Poland finally saw the light with their liberation by the Central Powers in the First Weltkrieg. But this was merely a facade, in reality the Germans had made Poland a puppet of the Kaiser by putting his son on the throne. During the Second Weltkrieg the Polish decided to unshackle themselves from the German chain with a revolution which would dethrone the German monarch and create the Polish People's Republic. The Kaiserreich tried to crush the revolution, but because it was distracted on two fronts it failed to extinguish the revolutionary fire which had just teared a hole in the Reichspakt. During the chaos of the war Zakrzewski managed to stay in power as supreme leader of the revolution and eliminated any opposition to his rule. The Germans couldn't hold out against the gears of the revolution and evantually collapsed with Poland and the Internationale and Russia and its allies dividing its ashes. Savinkov on the other hand was still not satisfied with its share, the Vozhd had hoped to expand his sphere across all of Eastern Europe and capture Berlin but the Polish revolution threw a spanner in his plans and would set up another powderkeg for a future conflict. The spark came when a Syndicalist Croatian revolt caused a confrontation between the two blocks which would eventuallylead to all out war. The existence of Poland was once again at risk, but with the help of its Syndicalist allies, recently reinforced by the Americans, they managed to push the Vozhd back and liberate Eastern Europe. In this time dreams of a red intermarium began to emerge. Originally envisioned by Józef Piłsudski, the idea of unifying Eastern Europe into a Federation which could stand against Russian imperialism was picked up by Kazimierz Zakrzewski and his followers. Dreams would come true when the Russian State collapsed into anarchy after the death of Savinkov and the newly liberated workers of Eastern Europe joined the Internationale. In 1948 the Commonwealth of People's Republics was declared with Zakrzewski as its Chairman. But the future of the Commonwealth is unstable as warfare has scarred the land and its people. Nationalism and extremism form a grave danger to the unity of the state and the threat of a Russian revival and revanche looms. It is a question if the Commonwealth will survive the second halve of the century but if it does it has the potential to become one of the most powerful and prosperous states in Europe.
