I made this cosplay of a female (Queen) Varian Wrynn in the year 2016. I took inspiration and the design from the Alliance king, Varian Wrynn, from World of Warcraft's Legion expansion cinematic and handcrafted this cosplay over the course of roughly 8 months. I absolutely LOVE the Alliance and my Alliance kings, so I poured my heart, soul, time and money into making this costume come to life! At it’s completion in November 2016, I was honoured to receive second place in the BlizzCon cosplay contest.

The armour is made from Worbla thermoplastic and EVA/craft foam, free molded to my body shape, and detailed with my Worbla scraps. The undercoat was sewn and trimmed with a heavy fabric to compliment the bulk of my armour and the cape is a hefty wool fabric that was both sewn and handsewn. The sword, Shalamayne, is pink foam board, carved into the sword shape. The base is covered with Worbla for stability, detailed with Worbla and the gems were casted with resin. The middle sphere lights up with an LED to emulate Shalamayne’s glowing center, and the sword also splits apart to copy the way Varian splits it apart on the Broken Shore. Aaaand since I get a lot of questions about how I made my shoulders, I made the base of my shoulders out of cardboard, then I layered on expanding foam which I carved to the lion/gryphon shape with a knife. From there I used craft foam, Apoxie sculpt, filler and Worbla to create the shape and details.
The parts of this cosplay that make it feminine and unique from the cinematic model are my personal touch and are not copied from an outsourced design. I can’t ask you not to copy me, but if you intend to copy my personal touches, please at least give me credit! If you tag me, I will usually see your cosplay too and I think other Varian cosplayers are awesome!
