Pop Uber Alles by ORTICANOODLES / we are going to print it soon / keep ordering at pigmenti.eu/
“Pop Uber Alles” looks deeper into the theme of skulls, used throughout the history of art as reminders of man’s mortality. Today, they have become ephemeral symbols deprived of their sanctity and appropriated by fashion, design and contemporary art. Gli Orticanoodles reconsider the image of the skull in a series of portraits of media personalities that are shown scalped, revealing empty craniums. We are invited to reflect on what remains of these men and women once they are stripped of their public image and status, confronting the question of identity as an image created to communicate a message.
This work is framed within the visual parameters of pop culture and advertising in order to distort the message and undertake social critique. The skulls ask us: what really matters – to be seen, or to act? To live or die?
