Dancing In the Rain
This is a modified version of a photo created by Phydeau (used with permission). The original photo is referenced below. Phydeau asked for help editing his photo. Instead of editing it I was in the process of making a quick painting based on the original image. Then a lot of changes came to mind. So I moved from the drawing board back to the computer and made this digital mock-up. I wanted to get an idea of what all the changes would look like. The mock-up looks fairly presentable so I'm posting it.

Do you like the "rain drops". I got that idea from paintings made by Hiroshige and Van Gogh.

Feedback appreciated.

Color Wheel - Tones
This is a color wheel created according to the HSB model. This wheel represents various tones (varying degrees of brilliance AND saturation). In an ideal world tones could be mixed by adding gray. Note that the steps shown here represent bigger changes in saturation than brilliance. This was done because, in effect, the eye seems to perceive changes in brilliance more than saturation. To put this another way, mixing in black paint has a bigger impact than mixing in white paint. This color wheel shows steps taken when adding white and black at the same time - but always twice as much white as black (at least in an ideal world with ideal pigments). This wheel was made in Photoshop, not with paint.

Note that pleasing color combinations follow certain patterns (a fact well known to interior decorators). This wheel can be used to locate the ideal companion color according to those principals. For example, colors with +/- 10 degrees are called analogous colors. They automatically look well together. Colors at +/- 120 degrees form pleasing complimenting colors. And another pleasing combination results with colors at +/- 90 degrees along with 180 degrees.
The name "Orion Shipworks" refers to the creation of 3D digital starships and vehicles. I originally created this account to display that type of work.
However, I also enjoy creating traditional artwork as well. Some of it is displayed here:…
My gallery here on DA has turned into my main online gallery. So it now includes a mix of traditional artwork as well as 3D digital creations.

So, why do I have two such different interests? Well, my professional training is in the field of computer system design. Part of my brain thinks like an engineer.
Maybe that's why I enjoy designing futuristic-looking vehicles using digital art. In addition I also have a great interest in aesthetics.
I'm particularly intrigued with the design and composition of drawings and paintings, for example how the viewer's eye is directed by shapes and lines.
As you will see, lately I've been focusing on the female figure, specifically trying to integrate the figure into the scene - such as an interior or landscape.

I've always been interested in art, but spent my career designing computers. Now I'm doing all sorts of artwork. I first came here to display my sci-fi fantasy creations. But now my traditional art is here as well. Feel free to leave feedback.
