I’m not dead yet. . .

A retrospective exhibition of work
by the artist Mervyn Diese.

19th-28th Movember 2013

at The Hundred Years Gallery. 13 Pearson Street. London E2 8JD

Having been very ill for the past couple of years my ability to produce new work, was some what hindered by the fact that I had an injury to my brain. After much care, change of habits, and lifestyle, I am decided to celebrate my survival by having a small art show @ a local gallery. The show will feature past works, and maybe one or two new unseen pieces. It will cross many disciplines and there will be stuff to buy. For those of you who have been to past shows this is indeed something new. It has been a while coming and is not the rumoured “Three Monkeys” show that I have been working towards since 2005, but will feature some of the work from 3 Monkeys as part of a special preview.

The title is as it suggest, I have not finished yet. It is about moving forward and returning to the creative works that allow me to express thoughts on the human condition and the way we develop our world.

You may not agree with what is expressed, but that is my right as an artist to make comment. This country at this time has seen many hard fought for rights erased, by the current Governments attempts to make life easier for big business. While my work is not strictly about this abuse, it has been provocation for creative works. Politics has always been a fuel.

Since my first big solo show back in the 90’s the Tory party and British Government has always given me much to comment on. Almost two decades and wars later little has changed in that respect.

Hail all deviants! Happy Nu Year! May it be as fruitful and juicy as the ripest of fruit. Here is a long over due update to my journal. The experiment has ended! `My project at the Fortress Studios. London came to an end last May when I was taken very ill and had to give up work for a while to recover. But art in the space continues and all info can be viewed at the following site.

www.thefort.info/

For 3 years I ran the screen ghost gallery which projected images from my DA favourites selection along with my own works on to the walls of a private bar in a London Recording studio. I'm pleased to inform you all the project was a success and the virtual gallery drew and attracted many fans and good positive comments. It especially was loved as part of the in house light show  on club nights or when live bands were playing, allowing me on occasionally  to make some very special films. These will be posted at my you tube site with links posted here as I write the rest of this post project report through the year.

While in the role of steward of The Vestry I indulged in the creation of much nu art in many formats some took the form of live performance, interacting with other elements of the room and situations at the time. I tried to encourage contributions from the studio community on many levels from tunes that formed the music library, to art for the walls, and live performances of various kinds.   There was much that I did not achieve  and quite a bit that I would have done differently given the chance to do it again, but as always hindsight is a great thing. Over the next couple of months I will retell the events of 3 years total immersion in the project, as well as post some of the works posted at other portals like Facebook which grew and changed during my time there and facilitated and became a very useful publication tool whilst I was there. With some pieces being time based using the way people interacted with the software, incorporating their various responses in to the next stage on the work.

I still have a lot to consider before writing a full report on the project, but it was definitely  one of the most exciting creative periods of my life, from which much was learnt and achieved with few regrets

As I said the much delayed update to both this portal and this journal, but it has been a very busy year. Continuing with the activities of last year I have been running the hospitality suit of a London recording studios. In to which I have installed a version of the Screen Ghost Projection Guild project. It has been well received and has both outraged and entertained as well as changed a few perceptions of what is in general is a fairly broadminded community.

i.e.. I found many who regarded some of the nudes as porn weather or not the image  sexual. Even when it was explained that these were the works of a world wide collective of artist that were all members of deviant art. Only by showing them the originals posted on the web and explaining the idea  and aims of the project for the third time did the penny finally drop.

The virtual gallery has to coexists with other elements that also use the projectors and slowly over the course of the year I have been documenting bits of the environmental work, as well as a virtual gallery, the space operates as a small realworld gallery of 64 exhibition spaces which currently houses small works of seven local artist as well as other works which are part of the general decor of the building.

The real coo of the virtual gallery was running it during some of the events that were held here as part of the everyday business of the studio. So I was able to screen work during parties where the space was hired, as well as during some of the band showcases. These included bands like The Molotov's, KAV, a BBC Radio one broadcast by Razorlight on the Jo Whiley Show, The Crimea, The Lauren Collective, and Marner Brown to name a few. This was doing exactly what the Screen Ghost Projection project was put together to do to put our work in front of an audience that would not normally have chosen to view, or had the chance to be exposed to our work. It was in these occasions that the work was best received and the diversity with in the collection celebrated.

On a personal note, serious work for me started in Feb this year with the production of a documentary, and release of some fresh digital manip/paintings commenting on the encroachment of the state on peoples right to take photographs. This had been removed due to changes in the laws on terrorism and in Feb had been extended to the journalist right to photograph the Police and government buildings.  I also resented the release of advertising by the police which horrific Big brother style threats which made the current climate more oppressive especially after the murderous events at the G20 demonstrations. Once again the state bully boys had murdered and were gonna get away with it. With the moment captured on film which I then fused with there own ads and once again created a witness which was artistic record not to be forgotten.

The loss of two friends this summer once again stirred  something deep with in and produced two very personal bodies of work titled 'Saying Goodbye to Johnny Duckworth' and 'Who gives a Shit what I did this summer ' the latter being formed of a mixture of abstract textural recording of my surroundings and some work shot at The Big Chill Festival. For a change I decided to publish these works in a different format and to a different unsuspecting audience. I decided to use Facebook  as the viral 1st portal then gradually releasing stuff  to the other portals and my own site. Apologize for taking so long to present them here.

I did try to hold an open event here but was a bit late with notice and promotion, Thanks Robbie for coming up from Brighton to have a look at the gallery. If your in the area (London), mail me and pop in for a cuppa and a gander. Now for the spikey dog story at the end of the news. One of the deviant art attacks I committed on Facebook was on Easter Sunday where I published a piece of work that blatantly shattered all the rules. I featured Male erections, vaginas, and was titled Christrising. not one complaint was received. I was not banned, black balled from the club and it still resides with in the groups gallery where it was originally published. Gill was right the revolution hasn't been televised this year,  it's been digitized instead and they don't have control.

SNARFU.

Once again thanks to all contributors to the SGPG project you and your works are fucking ACE! love ya. Peace

PREVIOUS J's (to keep you in the loop if ya forgotten)

My idea was to take my favs and project them on buildings around cities during the long winter nights. Unfortunately the first year that I planed to do this , my projector was damaged,. hence project delayed. However chance came around that I took charge and responsibility for a space. Cobbling to together the most basic of tools to the do the job the Screen Ghost Projection Guild has had a permanent indoor residency. Since February 2008 as part of my stewardship of The Vestry Hospitality Rooms at The Fortress Studios . London . UK I have been able to run a well received and acclaimed virtual gallery using the ideas that were the equaision for the SGPG.

Interfacing a wide selection of art to a public community is quite a dangerous thing because of preconception. Some of the the work featured comes from the fetish vault and there are quite challenging pictures of a sexual nature. The inclusion of these was quite interesting. As on first viewing many of these were seen as being pornographic, but then on repeated viewing the true beauty of each image in it's own right was realized. Over the the past months I have had many hypnotised by the play of images and the juxtaposition between pieces of work. Sometimes it is uncanny. As if a secret message was involved. Especially if music is added to the equation.

I have taken their art to raves gigs video shoots and an audience that couldn't t be reached directly by the web. Thanks to their creations we have been able to make some beautiful moments in time. I just wish I could have recorded them all, but I do belive the best is yet to come.

As wel as using it as a release point for diesekonstruction/art productions this year. Which for who're interested there is an on going situational piece on going in the Vestry, involving Decor and Media, as well as nu furniture workx.

This Project has taken up most of my time at the moment so I apologise for the late site update but folks it's been one BIG summer and this is just the beginning. THE RESISTANCE WILL NOT BE STERILE.

This is not art theft or art piracy. this is genuine free promotion of the artists involved in the the project. And no other criteria than I like that image. I enjoy it as a moment , a creation, as worthy and as valid as one of my own. After all, are we not told we are all equal. so everything and nothing is valid . We decide. We make the world and record it by our actions and our lives. The general message we try to pass between each other is love, I just wish we could all embrace it and forget what's gone.

But that's not the way of man. And this virtual gallery portrays that in a every strange and wonderful way.

The show is also populated with my own work and that of Ami Barwell a very talented music photographer who I met this year and was the first solo show as part of the virtual gallery

anyway for those of you in the uk or fancy a holiday across the pond I am Planing to hold a SGPG gathering on November 16th 2008 at the Vestry. It will also act as a deviant Art meet, I expect you all to turn up with hangovers or still drunk from the night before, any one found sober will be force to drive the rest of us home or somewhere.

for those who agreed to be part of this very special collaboration, I have tried to show your work in as many different situations as possible, and the response has been amazing. People love the work and athough now serious commisions have come from it a lot of intress in certain artist has been shown.

Hi all a happy Nu Nu to all sorry about this long overdue J update but I have been very busy making mischief and genrally encouraging bad behaviour in others, I have also been playing with the Utube ,programming my own TV which for those of you fed up with being brainwashed to by a sofa on a Bank Holiday and in need of cultural stimulation can be found at my main site diesekonstruction.universe. Here is something to consider on the way to Monkey Central.

In I originally contacted a few of you all with regard to projecting your work on buildings. My plans were put on hold due to the loss of a projector. This has now been resolved. Also the options have changed slightly,

I now run a venue and would like to project work from deviant art on the walls as a regular feature on a daily basis.

the original invite read as follows:-

I have been naughty, and now I would like to invite you to be naughty with me.

In 2006 I had an Idea for a xmas treat. I admire your work. each of you brings a special piece of inspiration to the spirit of the world. Some of you like my work. and feel the same about it. I wish t combine forces for a global ruse, and most definitely deviant attack on the world.

I have always liked the way the slideshow in the MAC OS X screensaver displays pictures I wish to use this process to project our work on an exceptionally large scale on buildings in London definitely, and other cities around the world as an installation I have made a small test film to illustrate the process, but wanted to know if any of you select bunch of deviants world like to contribute images to the work.

if you are interested let me know. I have set up The ScreenGhost Projection Guild ( SGPG ) to coordinate, and over see the project, and had as we have some common ground, i would like you all to be part of it - End

All contributors will be credited and a catalogue of work will be on display on site as well as direct access to DA. I can guarantee your work will be viewed by around 500 - 1000 people per month, most of whom will be professionals working with in the music industry. It is a great opportunity for anyone looking for cover work to get seen.

Also later in the year I will be offering exhibition space and shows space. The venue will com complete with bar, kitchen, and sound system, and is a perfect venue for small shows with a launch event.

The venue is located in central London near Hoxton's White Cube Gallery and is part of a Recording studio.

The work projected will be based on work in my Favorites List. If you have any objection to your work being exposed to a wider audience for free, or would like to know more about booking a show event please contact me at the following email address

THE 3 MONKEYS PROJECT

Foreword

in the summer of 2005 the chicken came home to roost. For a while we had been warned of terror attacks in London due to our actions elsewhere in support of our allies. In period of 48 hours we went from a nation of high charged emotional joy, to one of equally charged despair, confusion and anger.

But this is nothing new, everyday on a global scale the world is fueled, run, powered, and battered by similar swings of events. Only the locations and the actors in the unfinished drama transpose. Sometimes not even the characters change. There is always a hero. There is always a victim.

There is always a blind monkey who doesn’t see what’s
coming, or the injustice of the events, and systems that
surround it. A deaf animal that doesn’t hear the screams
of the rest of the world in pain, or warnings of change, so
missed the asking of the question why. A gaged ape that
can’t be heard above the din of sirens and calls for vengeance.

Shut up. Behave. Comply. We are told. an old image of our ancestors burns into our skulls. Children should be seen and not heard. Don’t look at that, you won’t understand. Who said you
could speak your not qualified. A constant barrage of rules and regulations, put downs and restraints that push pull and restrain our societies like a monkey on a chain dancing to an organ grinders tune, and banging a dented tin cup begging for peace and reason.

The images and forms in this collection are excretions from these forces and the pressure they have exerted on me as a man. With in them you may find my despairs, and my joys, my mischief and jokes. this introduction is not an explanation as the images and forms have their own identities which you will discover. Also until the work is fully assembled under one roof the full picture will not be realized. This is planned for 2007 but now includes announcements and previews at this site.

Early works, news, and production PR will be posted here. for more info on the project please use the following email address:

looking forward to seeing some of you.

For those that can't make it due to being overseas, or another engagement.Do not worry this is the first of a series of small events to be spread through the next year.

So there will be an oppertunity to visit.

A while back I had a notion. as a MacUser i fell in love with he way the Os X slide show screen saver displayed images. having just joined deviant Art.com, at site and community that is pro artist, and creativity, and is actually one of the best dam things I have found on the internet. I had the ability to look around and see what other artist were doing as well as find inspiration to my own creative soul. So i thought to add to this amazing wealth of diversity.

At the time my work with the DVJ's project was sporadic, but the need, and will to project art was foremost at my mind. It was at this time I decided to start and create the Screen Ghost Projection Guild. This is a selection of work based on my favourite images and work from my fellow creators on the site.

This is just based on what I have been able to view. A drop in the ocean for the wealth of talent stored and actively working there.

My idea was to take my favs and project them on buildings around cities during the long winter nights. This is major news update to my journal to mark the release of this years SGPG Project

This is major news update to my journal to report on 9 months of SGPG Project and running a virtual realworld gallery

ScreenGhost Projection Guild

P r o j e c t__ 2 0 0 8

This is just a minor up grade to my J and a big up to all DA members.

Nothing much to reprot but I would just like to say a big thank you to all the people I watch. Sorry if I fav and leave without comment, but somtimes, most times you leave me speechless. You are all amazingly talented and I love you work, always looking forward to see somthing nu.

Indeed in the dark doldrums or blank mind, loss of creative will, and genral aperthy you give me much comfort and encouragement to carry on being creative.

To single out any one of you would be difficult and unfair, and probably result in serious injury (confused mind shuts down and explodes) so please accept this one size fits all, big love cuddle from the syna.

My monkey: is developing slowly and I have had to shift the goal post slightly though this is more to do with possible dates for the final show rather than the quality or amount of content.

I am really stoked about the nu DA Film feature and hope to be allowed to have some of the monkey work featured there we shall see.

Also as winter and darkness approaches I'm thinking of trying to reopen and stage The Screen Ghost Projection Guild Project that I initiated last year which I had to cancel because of a broken projector bulb, for those who are inerested in being involved here is the lowdown.

The ScreenGhost Projection Guild

I have been naughty and now I would like to invite you to be naughty with me

I have an Idea for a xmas treat. I admire your work. each of you brings a special piece of insipration to the spirit of the world. Some of you like my work. and feel the same about it. I wish t combine forces for a global ruse, and most definately deviant xmas card to the world.

I have always liked the way the slideshow in the MAC OS X screensaver displays pictures I wish to use this process to porject our work on an exceptionly large scale on buildings in London definatly, and ohter cities aound the world as an insallation I have made a small test film to illustrate the porcess, but wanted to know if any of you select bunch of deviants world like to contribute images to the work.

if you are interested let me know. I wanted to set up The ScreenGhost Projection Guild to coordinate and over see the project, and had as we have some common ground, i would like you all to be part of it.

The basic idea was/is 69 artist 23 pieces each projected large scale in vairious urban locations worldwide over winter.

The main obstical in London will be getting approval from local government on what is projected, but I might just do it as a piece of art terrorism and cut goverment out of the loop. I already have a couple of sites where this is possible and the equipment to do it. I just need to spend the next month or so getting people on board, with the ideal start date around mid November/start of December.

web film copy

This is the sample that I have prepared for you all to get a better idea of what I want to do. I appologise for the quality of the film , but it was made on a reasonable quality phone camera and shot off the screen at home. They were then generated as Flash movies. (You Need version 6 pluggin to view this). To access the movie controller hold down the control key and click on the film to get a menu. to get access to this sample mail me. It is only accesslible this way, as it is just for conveying the idea to those interested in the project. Stills from last years test can be seen in my gallery.

It has a load time of around 10mins and plays for about 30mis, after the loadtime the movies play smoother so please be patciant to se the whole film. It is filmed in 2 parts one off a crt monitor one off a laptop. I think the latter has a slightly better quality. Andd you need a broadband connection to handle the download.

The main thing is the way the images are displayed by the screensaver program. Those of you who own or use macs are probably familer with this, the genral idea is to do this but on a much larger scale using digital video projectors.

For me the magic is in the mixup and juxtaposition of the images. Which is why the project needs more than one artist. We each have a different view of the world and in our works have echoed those views, in doing this project we broadcast those to the world.

I have set abit of a soundtrack to the films as the idea works exceptionally well with sound. Although this may not be possible on the outside projections I am planing to do an indoor version for a project launch party where sound would be essential.

Your comments, or message me via the usual channels at deviant Art.

any one having trouble down loading or seeing these films please let me know and we can arrange another way to view the sample.

"OUR STREETS 'R OUR MEDIA -WE have TOTAL access"
Wherever You Go Always Carry Chalk In Your Pocket

The pavements are an untapped media resource through which we ordinary peace loving folk can share our messages, hopes, dreams, ideas and create a new momentum towards peace - at a certain point there is critical mass in the cultural conversation which transforms into ACTION

We CAN Make THE Difference!

You are invited to Take Action! To Participate in this GLOBAL outpouring of public art. To make a personal  statements for peace on the pavements and sidewalks of our cities all over
our world. All around the globe, together we are decorating, dedicating and declaring, in deep sincerity our collective call for peace.

Chalk4Peace is about our empowerment. We The People, our global culture, all people everywhere and our common desire to live in peace.

The Chalk4Peace project has already transformed the experience of thousands of people attending demonstrations for peace all over the world during the past 4 years. Chalk4Peace is both a tool and a conduit for non violent public self expression, and participation in the growing global movement for peace.

Chalk4Peace is an opportunity for all of us of all ages to make our feelings known, especially the young, whose future is in dire jeopardy as our global village falls faster and faster into the fear breeding fear  breeding fear spiral. Our global culture is teetering on the edge of extinction. No 1 person alone can turn this around, but together WE CAN!

Our basic human instincts drive us to seek safety. This is what this  chaos is all about. Our essential human survival instincts are acting out of context with the wider global cultural need resulting in mistrust, fear and conflict. Everywhere the media bombards us with WAR TALK,  distractions and negative belief patterns that encourage us to believe that the future of our world is out of our hands entirely.

One place we still have communal access to, is OUR STREETS.

We can balance our GLOBAL CONVERSATION with collective self-expression using OUR STREETS AS OUR MEDIA!

Chalk4Peace is one step, a catalyst that can transform our global
conversation as "we the people", en masse make our statement that is our common aspiration for PEACE.

START NOW! Just DO IT!

Carry some chalk with you, invite a friend with you, to chalk
inspirations on the pavement whenever and wherever you fancy.

Chalk is harmless, cheap and washes away within a few days.

Especially PARTICIPATE in the Sept 15th to 23rd
GLOBAL Chalk4Peace ACTION!

Make it happen in your Community!

Lets us turn our grey streets into a living river of colour and
possibility - With poetry, hearts, peace symbols, empowering statements, also expressions of our frustrations and despair.

All will be seen for several days by thousands of people, then as they are washed away by the elements WE CAN CONTINUE to find fresh places to Chalk4Peace.

We don't need to be an artist to Chalk4Peace. Every statement, however small or large becomes part of the amazing tapestry that is our global future.

This unique event conceivably, could be the largest of its kind in
modern history. It is a global effort that is happening.

We The People are spreading the word and making the effort to be a part of this huge creative endeavour to bring Peace back into the equation.

It is our goal for at least one million or more of us to participate
with this sidewalk/pavement chalk extravaganza, at thousands of

Spring the energy rises. In the journey I travel to get here I have seen and done much. Some of the stories and events are logged here as part of my gallery.

Thanks to *Yamenja  for answering my nu years request for self portraits summing up you thoughts on how you felt about your last year (2006) still accepting submissions.

I would also like some feedback on some of the pieces, which are part of my 3 MONKEYS work which I hope to be exhibiting later this year.

To all my watchers thank you. To all the people I watch thank you, your work gives me much strength and enlightenment.

and now to business. I have decided to incorporate this site into my plans for the development of the 3 Monkeys Project and I am releasing some preview material here and welcome feedback. Therefor I am releasing the following statement.

After last years brief rest from the misery of Christmas one finds ones self on the brink of the great Christian Hijack with no place to run.

As we know the Winter solstice celebrates the return of the sun and having a full larder, cuddly spouse, and a warm place to shit. Once again I find myself devoid of most of these attributes, or the finances to escape.

Anyway this entry is not about me it's about those Christian hijackers. You know them that nicked ceremonies, customs, holy sites, and holidays. Bugger off you witch burning freaks, if we wanna party and get trashed and cause havock we will. You can take your dreadful carols, and your midnight mass and shove it up your hole, You as always have missed the point of life. and are therefore doomed to a life of guilt and remorse, war and intolerance. We can't even be bother to waste the energy to hate you like the Muslims. But one day rest assured we will be taking our holiday and our holy sites back. Then you'll be in trouble because all you beleave will crumble and turn to dust.
