Hello!
Most of my deviations will consist of origami, I can vaguely recall folding my first piece (a boat) at age 6 or 7, but it was in third grade when I learned how to make the most common and known origami: a crane. I was using a video tutorial, and I just couldn't fold the head and tail upwards for some reason. Though, now I can, and I'm learning to fold things much more difficult!

And yes, the background is made up of blue paper. I'm also glad that it inspired you to make one yourself. 
Was it the pentagon rose? Maybe you should try again using some Youtube tutorials. I've found them very helpful.
