A game is played among these beings known as "children" and "parents" where the chosen competitors must play through each "child's" game upon reaching the age of the "child" to survive. Bound by Birth Chp. 5: The least of Your Worries
Chapter 5: The Rain is the least of Your Worries...
Mary shivered as she shuffled her way down the sidewalk with an umbrella clasped tightly in her hands. She paused, looked up at the sky warily before opening it and raising it above her head.
"The weatherman always lies." She muttered as the rain began to patter lightly on her umbrella.
She continued on her way, wearing a slight pout on her face as she thought of her now ruined plans to play on the swings in the park. It wasn't often that she visited the park. Ever since the start of the games she had found herself suddenly drawn to it and would try and visit it as many times as possible. Her anxiety hadn't worn down since April had begun; which only brought memories of her innocent ignorance on the matter of death when she was a smaller child. How precious did the subject of life become to her the moment it became an object that could so easily be torn from her grasp.
Within moments she

Chapter 4: Lost in March
The dull hum of fluorescent lights filled Mary's ears. How she loathed the sound. For what felt like hours she had been roaming around her dull school's library trying to find something to occupy her mind as she waited for the next game to begin. Unfortunately, a majority of the material available to read felt like poorly treated hand-me-downs and after sitting through a couple pages of uninteresting dialogue she threw the fantasy novel aside with disgust. It was no wonder this place was always empty.
She leaned forward, resting her head on the wooden table's cool surface. Closing her eyes, she exhaled slowly and tried to think of a solution to her dilemma. She jumped as a book was slammed down on the table near her head and looked up to find a boy her age with light blonde hair staring down at her; the corners of his mouth turned up ever so slightly in a smile. She leaned back in her chair, eyeing him warily bef

Chapter 3: Welcome to my House
Mary grumbled out of irritation as her slumber was interrupted. She sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes, vision hazy as she glanced around her dimly lit room. A month had passed with no signs of a new game, so she had taken it upon herself to try and get as much sleep as possible during the month of February; anticipating that at any moment she would be whisked away to the next game. One of which she had not particularly been looking forward to.
Now as her vision cleared, she realized the source of disturbance came from the far corner of the room where a figure was hunched over what appeared to be an old wooden dollhouse. She flinched as the figure shifted and continued to hum an unrecognizable tune beneath her breath. Quickly, Mary hopped off of her bed and warily approached. The lights came on not soon after, leaving her stunned and cursing beneath her breath for a few minutes.
"Well you took your sweet tim

Chapter 2: Find Me...
A harsh light entered through the blinds, awakening Mary. She quickly brought a hand to cover her face and lashed out blindly to pull the cord. Finding herself pleasantly shaded, she let out a soft sigh of relief and laid back down on her bed. Ever since the incident at school the previous day, she had tried her best not to fall asleep in fear of a very unpleasant welcome by the strange girl who called herself Fiorella. Unfortunately, that was not to be so as she had passed out well into the night and into the next day.
Her stomach clenched as she slowly pushed herself off her bed and onto her feet. This was it, her first game of the year. Honestly she didn't know what to expect and so this brought about an abundance of mixed feelings. Sorrow of her possibly inevitable demise at the hands of a "child" was the first to strike followed by an unquenchable fear when she realized if she were to miraculously survive the ga
Bound by Birth Chapter 1: Welcome to the Game
Mary strode down the corridor packed with students at a slower than usual pace. After all, it was the first day of the new year, and she had been one among many of those in her student body grieving the sudden return to the bleakness of school hours. She didn't mind returning to the smiling faces of the few friends in her closely knit circle, however the absurdity of the shortened break could only be blamed on the school board. She crinkled her nose as she passed the gym headed towards her locker; making sure to squeeze through the rush of students that were barreling their way towards the front doors to escape the dismal place.
Her fingers fumbled with the lock as she tried to enter the code as quickly as possible; she didn't want to remain in the school any longer than absolutely necessary.
“Come on...” She muttered beneath her breath as she gave the lock another tug. Her third failed attempt. She cursed the school for even
