I write to you here now, my dear watchers, to introduce my photo series called Graffiti Urban Madness, or the GUM project.
This series has no great intentions, no ambitions and it wasn't intended to be just my own art, but homage to the art of these awesome street artists, all Brazilian. I have walked through São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte, all capitals of Brazilians states, and have captured with my phone their art as I see it, and their interactions with the urban environment. My idea is to spread the normally unseen or ignored street art, which is amazing on its own, and to help documenting and making them last longer through the images I create. The phone camera plays a fun role here, to make everything more casual and to take advantage of the portability, discretion and the ability to edit them on the go as lomos. Lomography at its finest, the modern way: see it, grab the phone, make the image!
This series is about the art of graffiti, which I believe can coexist with photography in a very healthy way. Street art made on walls don't last too much these days, and fortunately we have the craft of photography to make it last longer, and the internet to make them shown to a wider audience.
I am also very thankful for the support I have been receiving over the past months; I appreciate every kind word and feedback I received. I am always glad to read new words from you guys. I would also like to add that I am particularly happy because this kind of comment I have been receiving a lot lately, the as usual stuff.
People saying things like "nice colors, as usual". It seems like I have been able to develop a style in photography, just as I have always pursued, and to have my very own signature in the images I make, so that people can identify a work as mine among a lot of other photos. It thrills me to know that I have been able to develop a consistent visual language throughout these past years.
Thank you people, for your feedback! See you in the next photo.
