"The Angrboda Mask" – The Sister Mask

In Norse mythology, Loki was the trickster god associated with chaos and disorder. His mate Angrboda was the only one who could bring him to heel, and the only one whom their children would listen to.

When a person dons the mask of Loki, they become a force of pure chaos, unable to control themselves. So, the sister mask was created to give the wearer the ability to rein themselves, so that they control the mask rather than the mask controlling them. On its own, the sister mask has no power, it must be combined with the mask of Loki to use it’s power.

The sister mask itself is similar in appearance to the mask of Loki. However it is a lighter shade of brown, its expression is joyous and a happy smile. The shape is also oval in size, but cut in a way to allow it to be used together with the mask of Loki. On the forehead of the sister mask, sitting on the metal strip, a control node.

However, with the addition of the sister mask, so too must be added new rules. There are two ways the sister mask can be used.

First: is when the victim is holding both masks, one in each hand, and places the sister mask over the face of the mask of Loki. This causes the masks to ‘activate’ even though the masks are not touching a face. The two masks animate as if they are on a wearer, their magic wooden surfaces merging together. They both then reach out to the closes face/head of a potential wearer, even at arms length. The two masks then wrap themselves around the victims head as they pull themselves on.

Second: if someone is already wearing the mask of Loki, if they place the sister mask on their face it will act in the same manner as a regular human putting on the mask of Loki.

In either scenario though once completed, the familiar green winds of the magic twister encompass the new wearer.

After the transformation is complete, the only visual difference one would notice is the addition of the control node symbol of the sister mask now affixed to the wearers forehead. As if now part of their flesh.

The personality and actions of the wearer are no different when wearing the sister mask than if they were just wearing the mask of Loki.

However, the wearer is still susceptible influences. For it was discovered that sometimes a wearer was still unwilling to assert any form of self control and willingly allowed themselves to be overtaken by the pleasure that came from wearing the mask of Loki.

This lack of self control and restraint is why the second part of the sister mask was made ,a control talisman.

Small enough to fit in the hand of an adult, the sister mask talisman is circular in shape. Made of an unknown green rock-like substance with five different runes carved into the surface. Each of the runes which are etched into the strange stones, translates to a different word: control, possess, obey, puppet and dominate. All surrounding a control node in the center. This same control node found on the forehead of the sister mask itself.

When all five runes are working simultaneously to overrides the body of the wearer. Essentially, whomever held the talisman could control the wearer of the mask as if they were a marionette on strings. While still cognizant of the world around them, the wearer of the sister mask will have no control of themselves so long as the control talisman is in use.

The holder of the control talisman can use the mask wearers power to their full extent. They simple need to will whatever they want to happen and the wearer of the sister mask will obey, willingly or not. Distance holds no limit between the sister mask and the talisman. If separated by distance, the holder of the talisman can still communicate and control the wearer of the sister mask. They may either speak directly into the mind of the mask wearer, or they can project an illusion of their own head that will appear from out of the sister mask’s node.

When trying to remove the sister mask, the wearer is unable to remove the masks themselves. The masks will simple stretch like rubber, never breaking the seal with the wearer. Even the ever present seam on the back of the wearers head if wearing just the mask of Loki will be covered by the sister mask, preventing the wearer from pealing the mask apart.

The masks can be removed if someone other than the wearer themselves pulls the mask off. It will be difficult, but the outside help must ‘tear’ the back of the mask apart, as if to make a seam.

This was an idea I had about making a version of the sister mask that was "real". As in also a magic artifact instead of a piece of technology made in a modern lab.
