"If you don't try, you fail by default"

I am not on this account frequently, if you need me:
message me @DizzyMountaineer

Heyo, most people online call me Dizzy. I live in Washington. I like cats. I was studying for an art degree, now I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. Right now, I'm biding my time to get back on my feet after multi-year hassle with ulcerative colitis, chronic anemia, autoimmune arthritis, and other fun shit. I'm autistic and damn proud. The way my mind is affects the way I see the world around me, and has a big affect on my creative thought process.

I also like cats, did I mention I like cats?

These make me happy. They look the way I remember the Serendipity book illustrations made me feel as a kid reading them.

Commenting twice because I would like the badges on both accounts, please: https://www.deviantart.com/comments/1/889902764/4942518945

  1. In Seattle they opted to call it "Latino" heritage month. Since I'm not a Latinx myself, I might be a bit out of my lane saying this, but it reminds my of the debate surrounding whether to continue to refer to the community as "Latino" or to shift to a gender neutral term, and also the debate between Latinx and Latine. From what I understand, Latinx is a valid identifier in the USA, but Latine is used more broadly in the Americas. Since I'm not part of the community myself, my opinion can hold only so much weight, but I wish all Latino, Latina, Latinx and Latinx people regardless of the term they use for themselves individually and their community at large success in the effort to end sexism and gender discrimination, especially my queer brothers, sisters, and siblings.

  2. I find a lot of emotions I can relate to in Frida Kahlo's art. I appreciate the queerness of her works and the disability she struggled through to create them. Though we come from different times, places, and cultures, I can see a bit of my own life struggles and experiences reflected in her and her work.

I'm cross-posting these answers as a goober with two accounts and I hope that's alright: https://www.deviantart.com/comments/1/876308852/4919579959

  1. I really like The Glass Scientists, a webcomic which is created by Sabrina Cotugno, who I believe is biracial Asian. Another great biracial Black/Asian artist I follow on Twitter Kiana Mai, who is fantastically sweet and the world is unworthy of her.

  2. The Seattle Metro Area has a dodgy history with the AAPI diaspora considering the Chinese Exclusion Act. Asian immigrants were a part of the community and helped build the state of Washington to what it is today, but were treated as undesirable in spite of it. There's various monuments now, including one on the Tacoma waterfront, acknowledging the harm the Act did to erase the contributions of AAPI Washingtonians.

  3. I think a lot of Washingtonians are unaware that Chinook Wawa, the homegrown pidgin language from the Pacific Northwest, has been influenced by its many speakers, including the AAPI diaspora. It's what makes Chinook Wawa so great, it's a language formed from the tongues of everyone speaking it.
