Description

The vampire is a nocturnal pack hunting predator native to the Dark Pine regions. They hide amongst the dark foliage of the trees at twilight waiting for lonesome drifters to happen by their nests and ambush zones.
Though cowardly by nature, once their prey is alone the Vampires will attack, sometimes a single vampire may latch unto it's prey and drain it's blood, other times as many as a dozen may eviscerate unlucky travelers and beasts.
Although bloodsuckers by nature, they nonetheless will eat the meat/carrion if available, leaving just skin and bones after they're through.
They vary greatly in size, although generally lighter and more gracile in bone than humanoid races, their jagged claws, strong arms/wings, and quick jumping/gliding tactics make them a dangerous foe, especially in large numbers.
The smallest may be smaller than a human, and weigh only half as much(or less), with the largest being as tall as 7' or even 8' feet tall.(The largest are called Vampire Lords, these alpha vampires are distinguishable by their increased number of bristles, especially on the back and chest, and of course their massive size.)
Generally the most common amongst the flock will be smaller or medium sized vampires, with only a few "counts" and "lords", (Names for Large and Alpha vampires).
Although they look sinewy and strong, a lot of their bones are supplemented by cartilage, though they are less durable because of that, they also are thought to never stop growing, their wingspan and body gets greater in size, making them stronger and more dangerous, but limiting their flight capabilities.
Vampires have amazing senses, superior hearing, heat sense/vision, echolocation, and great sense of smell, though they are basically blind in the light, and of course have a strong fear of fire. (Their bristles and dry hides make them weak to fire attacks.)
They have the unique ability to -play dead- when they are blood starved. Entering a paralysed/dead state until fresh blood is sensed nearby. This makes some abandoned mines and caves especially deadly.
