Hello everyone!  Hi!  OneWithTheStars here and welcome to ProjectDFC's 2020 installment of May Mixup Madness!
(I am also sad that, even though I don't do much formatting with journals, this is likely the last one for ProjectDFC that will be implementing them before the conversion to Eclipse...)

MAY MIXUP MADNESS (MMM)

We love to mix it up a little (or perhaps a lot) here at ProjectDFC.  May is the designated month where we get to mix it up with inspiration from another's works!  Borrowing just might be what all those that participated in NaPoWriMo need after the daily poetry writing for a month.  I think I've fainted.

What we do for this month is follow a specific poetic structure called the Cento.  The Cento is a form that is essentially borrowed.  The goal is to take lines/lyrics from the poetry/songs of another and reconstruct them into an order to create a whole new poem or song.

Step 1

CHOOSE YOUR INSPIRATION: Pick a single lyricist (music artist, musician, or group band) or poet (famous or DA friend) to use their works.

Step 2

FIND YOUR LINES: Pick a SINGLE line from each song's lyrics or series of poems.  This means if you want an eight-line poem, you must choose a single line from each of eight songs or each of eight poems.  The number of lines for your Centro are unlimited--you can choose as many or as few works to incorporate into it.

Step 3

STITCH YOUR CENTO: Now that you have your lines chosen, rearrange them into an order to create a whole new work.  You may have to go back and forth in your inspiration's songs/poems to find different lines to create your poem--I seem to have to anyway.  Sweating a little...

Need more inspiration?  Here are some great examples written by our members from last year's MMM:
<da:thumb id="798918255"/> simply spellboundThrough dogwood trees in the twilight walking, I am taking my sweet time and as the light begins to shift...we are air and memoirs- we are magic in the moment- and I swear that this world has never been brighter. You made me paper cranes  with drunken precision and that was all that really mattered. You rattle my walls and shake my bones. You are Neptune. I hold my breath, but you keep breathing.Sometimes I feel the wind is a presence- it keeps us connected. Us two, a couplet, sweet rhythm and rhyme, and vibrant blues.Your eyes are lockets of love and affection. belladonna riddlesbelladonna riddles me so (maybe she'll love you the way i do: across homes, across hearts never defined from the start) better used for funeralstell me the names of the ones you love, just believe (in) me, for once a hostage- not a partner, like a comfort, like a curse“scream somewhere else” you say with a snarl, there’s teeth marks on your lips, steel beneath your fingertipssneaking in was easy enough, until i started screaming about elephants and that's way less metaphorical than it might seem-she's a friend of yours, a friend a fucking ghost and honey you're only human: you cannot grasp fingers on the trigger, creaking joints, puckered ...
