:: TOY STORY 3 SPOILER ALERT ::
A loud thud echoed down the stairwell, its vibrations followed by sound effects and voice variations that could only mean Bonnie was having an adventure. Her adventures were limited only to the extent of her imagination, an imagination so vivid her playthings seemed to
come to life. Being only five the possibilities were endless, she could be a cowgirl rounding up a band of cattle rustlers, a space ranger sworn to protect the Galactic Alliance from the likes of the evil emperor Zurg, or a superhero protecting her city from an evil witch. Today though it was an escapade of her own design, staring none other than her newest and most favorite toys Sheriff Woody, Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command along with a few of her other playthings. The evil Doctor Porkchop had captured Jessie in a floating glass prison, unbreakable from the outside and it was up to Woody and Buzz to save her whilst stopping the evil doctor's plans to turn the citizens of Bonnieland into mind controlled zombies!
"Buzz hurry! You get Jessie out of there while I stop Doctor Porkchop!" Bonnie whirled around so that Woody faced the entrance to Doctor Porkchop's evil lair, the closet of no return!
"No Woody, you can't go in there without backup! I won't let you!"
"I have to Buzz, I'm the only one who can stop him, besides Jessie needs your help!" Bonnie pointed Woody's hand up to where Jessie was trapped in a floating force field, more commonly known as a household fishbowl which was resting on the windowsill. "I'll be fine, just go!" He dramatically "strode" into the closet with his head held high, the door shutting behind him. Meanwhile Bonnie scooped up Buzz and pressed the big red button on his suit to eject his wings.
"To infinity and beyond!" Bonnie ran around her room, whooshing noises escaping her lips as Buzz flew to the rescue. "Don't worry Jessie I'll use my laser to get you out of there!" Buzz shot at her prison with his Star Command issued laser but to no avail.
"It's indestructible from the outside Buzz!" Jessie called out "I'll have to figure out a way to bust it open maself!" Bonnie placed Buzz down near the fishbowl and stuck her hand inside to grab Jessie. "I got it! YODALAYHEEEEEEEEHOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Making an exploding sound, Bonnie pulled Jessie from the bowl and propelled her into Buzz's waiting arms. "Nice catch there partner!"
"It was, ahem, no trouble at all." Bonnie giggled as she imagined big ole tough Buzz blushing. "We have to help Woody, there's no time to lose!" More whooshing sounds, and Buzz and Jessie took flight zooming to their friends rescue. That is, until the fantasy was so rudely interrupted.
"Bonnie honey it's time to go!" The little girl's mother's voice echoed up the stairs.
"Awwww but mommy! Buzz and Jessie were about to save Woody from the evil clutches of Doctor Porkchop and stop his plan to take over the world!" The little girl placed Buzz down but kept a hold of Jessie as her mother entered the room.
"They can save the day when you get back, we need to go pick out a birthday present for daddy remember?"
"Oh yeah!" Bonnie hopped over another of her toys, Rex the dinosaur, and made her way out the door. "Can Jessie come too mommy? She loves going to the u-u-nique store!"
Bonnie's mother laughed as she followed her daughter down the hall. "Of course honey, Jessie can come with us to the antique store." She smiled at her daughter's excitement and locked the front door behind her.
Meanwhile back upstairs, the young girl's toys had taken advantage of their owner's absence and were coming to life, stretching their arms, legs and various other appendages. Buzz retracted his wings, hopped down from the windowsill and went over to let Woody out of the "closet of no return".
"So Woody, did you manage to stop the "evil doctor pork chop?" Buzz asked with a smirk as his tall cowboy friend staggered out of the closet.
"Ha-ha, very funny Buzz. It's so cluttered I doubt anyone, even Doctor Porkchop could fit a lair in there." Woody stretched and looked surveyed the surroundings, noticing they were missing someone. "Hey, where's Jessie?"
"Bonnie took her to the store with her, "Buzz replied walking over to where the rest of the toys were gathering, "It's Bonnie's dad's birthday today."
"Oh, well that's nice." Woody said joining him "isn't their anniversary coming up?"
"Yup, next week I think."
"That's good that's good."
An awkward silence filled the room as the toys pondered what to do with their newly found free time.
"So, "Rex piped up out of nowhere, "World of Warcraft anyone?"
Jessie may have been in her lifeless toy state, but that didn't keep her heart from racing a mile a minute. Bonnie was taking her to the store with her! Butter her butt and call her a biscuit she hadn't been to a store since she was Emily's toy! Andy wasn't the type to take a cowgirl doll out in public so it was usually Woody or Buzz the honor was bestowed upon. It was a store she had never heard of before either, an antweak store? Was that what it was called? Not that it really mattered, she was just glad to get some quality time with Bonnie. It made her feel
special again like when she belonged to Emily. It wasn't that she wasn't getting any attention of course, oh no, Buzz saw to that. Jessie fought the urge to giggle as she thought of her favorite space toy trying to express his feelings for her but never seeming to know just how. He must have skipped the class on girls back at the academy.
"Ok honey we're here!" Bonnie's mother put the car in park and turned back to her daughter, "Are you going to leave Jessie in the car? If you take her in you can't set her down anywhere."
"Yes mommy I promise!" The little girl hopped out of the car and slung Jessie over her shoulders holding her feet so she wouldn't fall off. "Come on Jessie, let's go exploring!"
The door jingled as Bonnie's mother held it open for her daughter who gazed at the establishment in awe. Row after row, case after case of thingamabobs and doodads captured the girl's attention. When she spotted an aisle of old toys though she was instantly transfixed.
"Mommy, can I go look at the toys please?!"
Bonnie's mother looked up from the case she had been looking in, "Sure honey just remember, look don't touch. If anything gets broken I'll have to pay for it"
But Bonnie was already walking down the aisle, fascinated by all the interesting play things as was Jessie. The cowgirl couldn't resist looking at all the toys, some old, some not so old. She thought she was a fairly old toy but some of these things were ancient. There was a rickety looking tricycle, a pyramid of blocks, and some extremely creepy looking dolls. Jessie was glad Bonnie walked by them without a second glance, the last thing she needed to go with her nightmares of being put back in the dark were those things watching her sleep. What else was there? Some old barbies from the eighties, she wondered if they were anything like their Barbie, a cute little kitchen set and some Lincoln logs. As they rounded the corner though, Jessie already racing heart nearly flew out of her chest. Was that? No it couldn't be, but it was! Sitting on the bottom shelf, nestled between an ancient teddy bear and an erecter set was Bo Peep! Lamp and all! Jessie couldn't believe her eyes. After all these years there was her old friend, just sitting there on a shelf waiting to be sold to some
packrat or collector! She couldn't let it happen she just couldn't! There had to be some way she could get Bonnie to take her back home with them, back to her family, her friends, her Woody. As Bonnie paused to look at the barbies , Jessie thought back to the days following Bo Peep's disappearance. The toys had looked for days and days, none harder than Woody who cared about Bo more than anything. When they found out she had been sold at the yard sale Woody was devastated. Jessie had never seen the old sheriff so upset before, not talking for days, not seeing anyone. Even after she convinced Buzz to try and talk to him it was no use. It broke her heart to see him that way and even though he put on a good show for the rest of the gang she knew he was still hurting inside, they all were. Well blast her to smithereens she was going to fix that, but how?
Jessie noticed that in her fascination with the barbies, Bonnie had temporarily let go of her legs. If she could aim herself just right, she could slide right off of Bonnie's shoulders and land right next to Bo. Jessie had to be quick though for the young girls attention was waning fast.
"Come on Jessie time to- Jessie? Jessie where'd ya go?" Bonnie frantically searched the floor around her for her missing cowgirl doll. In the meantime Jessie had slowly inched her way closer to Bo, wrapping her arm around the shepherdess's staff.
Bo shook her head in disbelief, "Jessie?! Is that you?!"
"Shh!" Jessie motioned for her to be quiet as Bonnie approached.
"Oh there you are Jessie! Aw did you make a friend?" Bonnie asked as she stooped to pick up both Jessie and Bo's lamp. Jessie prayed that her plan would work; all she had to do was keep her arm wrapped around Bo's shepherd staff.
"Come on Jessie, time to say bye bye, we gotta go!" Bonnie tried pulling the two apart but Jessie was stuck! Putting all of her strength into one mighty tug, she managed to free Jessie but with her came Bo's staff. "Uh oh." She tried to reattach it but it was too late, her mother was coming down the aisle.
"Bonnie, are you ready to- oh dear." She stooped down to take the lamp from her daughter. "Bonnie what did I tell you about touching things? Honey you snapped this right off!"
"I'm sorry mommy, I didn't mean to! Jessie was just trying to make a friend!"
The girl's mother sighed, "Well it looks like she found one, I'm going to have to pay for this. Come on it's time to go. "
Jessie could hardly contain her excitement as she watched Bonnie's mother pay for Bo and place her in the bag with the other items purchased. Back in the car, before she buckled up, Bonnie leaned over the back seat and placed Jessie in the bag as well.
"Now you two get to know each other! And remember to play nice!"
As the car lurched forward, Jessie came to life and rushed forward, pulling Bo into a bear hug so big it nearly snapped the poor thing in half.
"Oh Bo! You're back you're back!"
Bo quickly shushed her, but smiled and returned the cowgirl's embrace.
"Jessie why aren't you with Andy? Who is that girl?"
"Oh that's Bonnie! You'll love her! Oh, I can' wait till we get home! Everyone's gonna be so happy to see you! Sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln I can' wait to tell Buzz!"
"Buzz?! Buzz is still with you?!"
"Yup! And Bullseye, and Rex, and Slinky, oh and the Potatoheads
Jessie saw Bo smile at the mention of all her friends, but she knew the poor girl was waiting for her to say one name in particular.
"Ya know, Woody's been mighty lonely without you. Poor sheriff, I ain't ever seen him that upset."
Bo's face instantly brightened. "Woody?! He stayed with you?! Why didn't he stay with Andy?"
"Oh he had his reasons I'm sure, I can' wait to see the look on his face when he see's you. After all we been through, boy could use a little sun in his life again."
"Been through? What happened to you all Jessie?"
For the rest of the ride home Jessie filled Bo in on what all had happened to them. The trash bag, Sunnyside, Lotso, the dump. Bo took in every word and could barely believe what her porcelain ears were hearing. By the end of the journey her heart was so full of longing for her sheriff that it took every ounce of dignity and strength she had not to jump out of the bag and run upstairs. Bonnie's mother left the bag at the foot of the stairs then took her daughter outside to help in the garden. Jessie poked her head out of the bag to be sure the coast was clear before helping Bo. Slowly the two toys climbed their way up stair by stair before reaching the hallway outside Bonnie's room.
"Wait here." Jessie whispered barely able to contain her excitement with which she was practically quivering with. She adjusted her hat and took a deep calming breathe. Flashing a big grin back at Bo she went sprinting into the room.
"YEE HAW! I'M BACK EVERYONE!"
The enthusiastic cowgirl was greeted with a chorus of "hellos" and "howdy's" as she made her way across the room to where Woody and Buzz sat playing Uno. She placed a quick kiss on her spaceman's cheek causing him to blush before grabbing Woody and dragging him towards the door.
"Jessie what on- WHOA!" Jessie had jumped on his back and covered his eyes with her hands causing him to stumble and falter as she steered him to the door. "Jessie what on earth is going on?!"
"Keep yer eyes shut their cowboy, you'll find out!" She slid off his back, pulling his hat down over his eyes in the process. Grabbing his hand she led him to the door and poked her head through motioning for Bo to come forward. Grabbing her hand too she pulled her into the room, grinning from ear to ear. Placing Bo's hand in Woody's she quickly back away running to join Buzz as he stared in disbelief. Woody, tired of not knowing what was going on, grumbled and readjusted his hat.
"Jessie will you cut the chatter and tell me what is going on around
"Hello Woody." Bo smiled up at him, still the same old Bo he knew and loved. Woody couldn't believe his eyes. After all these years, after everything he had been through, there was the girl he loved more than anything standing right there in front of him. No strings attached. Jessie's heart practically exploded with joy at the sight of the happy reunion. Woody pulled Bo closer, shaking his head in disbelief.
Bo looked over to where Jessie was standing with Buzz. "It was Jessie. I'd been sitting on the shelf of that antique store almost since the day I was sold. When she spotted me, she came up with a brilliant plan to get Bonnie's mother to buy me and bring me back here."
"But how? I mean, what did you-"He was cut off as Bo hooked her staff around his neck and pulled him down to her level, just like in the old days.
"I missed you Woody." She leaned in and kissed him. Woody jumped a little; almost as though an electric shock had been sent through his cotton stuffed and sewed body. Quickly recovering he responded with so much enthusiasm that he lifted her clear off the ground. Applause rang out as he swung her around in a circle and set her back down.
Overcome with emotion Jessie turned to Buzz "Aw, come here space ranger!" and dove at him showering him with kisses and giggling as she watched his already pink with excitement face flush a deep red.
Bo, having observed the whole incident, looked up at Woody and smiled even bigger, happy to finally be back where she belonged. She placed her head against her sheriff's chest and snuggled in a little closer, content to stay that way the rest of her life. "So," she asked as she felt him rest his chin on the top of her head. "What exactly have I missed?"
