Literature Text

I lay in a nest of blankets
As I listen to a static lullaby;
Where all the words are the same
And all the notes blend together.

I close my eyes to hear the words,
Over and over and over again.
I wish I could fall asleep,
But all I see is you.

My eyes are closed and all is dark
But even in the black I see
Something bright, something real,
Something I want, something I don't have.

I wish I could just fall asleep
In my nest of blankets
With arms around me and
Your breath against my shoulder.

But I dream of smiles and happier times,
And the way we fit, hand in hand.
And as I drift off to sleep, sleep at last,
I turn towards you and just ask you this.

Could you just say something in the dark,
Could you just sing to me while I rest
So I know you're there, I know you care
So that I know you'll be there in the morning.

And I want to dream in colour
And feel the sun against my face
Even as I sleep, even as you hold me tight
I want to see it all, I want to be it all.

While I close my eyes and give you a kiss
You tell me not to worry, not to stress
How nothing can go wrong, how nothing can be wrong,
While you're there with me.

I wake up in the morning, the sun against my face,
I listen to your breathing, I watch the way you move,
I close my eyes and just smile
As I listen to a static lullaby.
