A Place to Wake up by ondrejZapletal A Place to Wake up by ondrejZapletal
It was an amazing frozen morning that day. Thermometer was showing bellow zero and the sun only recently looked upon city of Prague. I forgot my gloves at home, so my fingers were a little numb, but the city had such a breathtaking atmosphere, that i couldn't make myself go home yet.
Then i saw somebody laying there. Under not so thick blanket, with all his possesions around. How could i not see him until now? is he alive??
I came closer to make sure that this was not a dead body. Slowly, step by step, and still no sign of life. Then, suddenly, without any warning a leg moved!
well, there we go, he's alive. I was relieved. Left him a power bar, for breakfest, that i had with me in my bag.. I hope he liked it.

I really like these neutral colors (no black/white or even full colors).

I'm glad this he was alright.

You have a great gallery (and how refreshing to see Prague away
from the tourist photos)!
This one is especially dramatic, and it reminded me that most of your
shots don't feature people, so the man's presence here is just as
surprising to the viewer. I recognize the lamps from some of your
railroad shots, so this must be just to the right of the tracks.
Do people in the Czech Republic ride the rails like hobos used to
in the U.S.?

I dont think that they would ride the rails in this way here, but i am no specialist.. i know that they rides trams in the city, its nice and warm in there during winter.

He would have been better served sleeping in the bushes and building a canopy above him.
That would help eliminate the threat from frost and limit exposure to the wind.

Nice shot!

Like you, I took a couple of glances before I saw him!  I was taken in by the surroundings, railway power lines etc, and the lights receding into the background.  Then as I read your piece, there was a gradual dawning of comprehension.
Thanks for a wonderful shot, maybe you should walk the same way and see if he is there again?

Homelessness: always a difficult subject for a photographer.  I think that you handled this very tastefully.  You are to be commended.

I'm glad you gave him the power bar. ;)

Nice work!
