CHAPTER XXXVI. Blood is Spilled, The Reunion
Trapped in the cell at Lowell's stronghold, Wasdor searches for a means of escape, until he is startled by a sound from by the door.
Wasdor looked and realized there was a round gap in the metal facing attached to that wall. It was dark now, but he comprehended that there had been a bright spot in the middle before. The wall had a spy hole, and someone had looked in on him. The sound had been the the metal cover sliding back into place.
“No,” Wasdor thought to himself, “they would not let me get away with very much. They mean to hold on to me.”
He leapt off the bed and knelt down upon the floor.
There was not enough space under the door to where he might see light or the feet of someone standing there, but he knew he could listen, for he had spoken to Elizabeth through the door earlier.
What he heard was the shuffle of feet, leading away down the hall, back to the guard desk. Whoever it was, no doubt, would sit and wait, only
