Can you see the two phases of the movement? She's aiming for the femoral artery.

A knife can be positioned and oriented a couple ways in the hand for effective slashing: pointing out from the inner side of the hand (where your thumbs are aligned), or pointing out from the outer side of the hand (where your pinkies are aligned). I guessed this orientation (pointing out from the inner side). The other orientation, with the blade pointing out from the outside of the hand seems, now upon further consideration, like it would have been ineffective for slashing in that direction. So I guess I was right.
