Out in the Wild - A Shiny!

Tue May 14, 2013, 7:46 PM
So, I mentioned in the description of a post, about a certain tumblr account that's gotten over 23,000 notes (favourites/reblogs):…

Also lately, there has been an imgur post that reached the front page and got 7,500 favourites and 75,000 views:

It was also on reddit, with 5,000 upvotes and at least 8,000 views, probably more:…

It's a bit hard to pick apart DA's system as well but there are about 120,000 views on this series and 8,500 favourites + 1,000 comments.

That's about 44,000 'engagements' (faves/likes/someone actively clicking something) and probably over 200,000 views.

Ultimately, what is my favourite part of all the stats? I was on a completely unrelated news website today. The comment section below is usable by logging into facebook. I was scrolling through the comments and someone had the Struggle poster as their profile picture. Apparently Facebook has 1.11 billion users... the odds of someone liking that poster enough to make it their profile picture and then commenting somewhere I could see are pretty small - but it happened! (It's easy to find good stats when you're looking at people who already love pokemon, but to find a good stat in the random, general population, is rare and exciting. It's like catching a shiny!)

I love when people print out the posters; it's exciting to see those pokemon out in the wild! :D

The first fan picture is up, and it's TyepiandSamuel:

I know a lot of people don't want to pay for points, or can't because they don't have a credit card, or just don't have points for whatever reason. However, they want to give points out, to thank the creators of art they really like (hopefully me included!) in a more substantial way than just a comment.

:icondahub: is an excellent way to remedy that. You go and like/favourite/give llamas to people on that page then leave a comment saying "done" and the site automatically gives you points based on how much you've done. You get to look at a bunch of art, other people get favourites, and you get points to give out! Mega-bonus, if I'm on your watch list and then you go do all that, I get 10% of any points you earn - and then you're free to give out your points to other artists and still be 'thanking' me along the way <3

:iconprinceciel: is another option. You give faves/llamas/etc to people on that page, and they'll do the same to you. You don't get any points for doing it, however, they do give out random points (and I believe you need to be a member?)

On a similar note, is  [Get Watchers]. It's not associated with DA's point system, but you get GW points for faving work, and then people do the same to your work, so it's a good way to get yourself known! (And if you join from that link, it's similar to the first option, where I get a % of the points you earn)

P.S. If you're curious about converting points to $, check this out:…
In my head I always go with the "1 point = 1 cent" rule but that's not very accurate so use that calculator ^

Loser Pokemon

Thu May 2, 2013, 12:12 PM
I just found this group: Rejected-Pkmn-Club because I was looking for more places to submit my latest masterpiece:

but then I realized, looking through my gallery, I give a lot of love to the reject pokemon!

When I played the game, I was the type to super-level my starter pokemon and ignore everything else, "mastering the pokemon world is about loving your entire team" be damned! And I never did competitive battling because it wasn't really a thing then. With those two factors combined, I had lots of room to love the useless pokemon that looked kinda cool or were unique or weird, since I didn't need their combat prowess; I just wanted to enjoy their cool forms and names :D

What "loser" pokemon did you guys love, and would you want to see in future posters?

I know that title has some negative connotations but I'm talking about the pokemon move copycat: causes the user to use the last move that was used.

I've found some users on DA who have used copycat on me, and I want to make it clear - that makes me happy/proud/excited!

The latest is xSwordsDance copying my pokemon warning signs...
Quick Attack not permitted by xSwordsDance
and the posters...
Individuality by xSwordsDance

Edit: I'm a smart cookie and found the other user!
MyGambit made some of their own pokemon posters...
I like the puns in the second one, that first one stole my abra though :( So I'm going to wait awhile until I post my abra poster!

This one isn't an official copycat but the layout and idea are close enough, and it's from one of my watchers, so I'm going to assume! from ammie95

I'm always happy when people like my work and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (as long as you don't use up an idea I had on my list!)

Too Many Numbers

Fri Apr 26, 2013, 10:36 PM
I said on my first pokemon poster that I would respond to every favourite. Well, I tried sending messages back but I kept hitting the spam filter. I eventually switched to llamas but I hit the spam filter there too.

The problem got worse when every new poster I submitted would get a few hundred favorites, and I could only answer about 50 of them every few hours and that's only if I was doing it constantly.

It's gotten to the point where I just look at the number up there and get so depressed thinking about trying to respond to every one that I don't even respond to any!

I figure it will be a lot of the same people once I finish replying to the first poster, I just can't get motivated to do it. Every time I feel like it, I can only do a few then DA tells me no no no.

If anyone reads this... do you respond to all your favourites? Just the comments? Just the watches? I respond to every comment because the person has taken the extra time to say something (and a lot of people get angry when thanked for favouriting something! Crazy, they're obviously not Canadian.)

Edit: I've llama'd everyone who favourited my first piece, Struggle! Now no one like it ever again, thanks :D
