One of the few remaining parts of the 2 mile long Rookhope Chimney. It ran parallel to the ground up the steeply rising moors to carry poisonous flue gases from the Rookhope lead smelting works.

This is amazing. Thank you, as always for your stunning vistas. I read up about this. Apparently, the idea was that the lead would form a coating on the inside of the chimney tunnel, and now and then boys would enter the tunnel and scrape the lead off the walls to collect it as a the end product. Crazy.
