Welcome back. by OmegaDez Welcome back. by OmegaDez
After a long absence, an old character of mine makes her triumphant return!

Yuki is finally back, with a slight redesign, making Maki definitely happy not to be alone anymore.

Just like that previous picture I did, the girls are hanging out somewhere in Québec City...

...which led me wonder just why they're called Maki and Yuki to begin with, considering neither of them is Japanese. Could those be nicknames?

What if their real names were... Chloé Langelier and Marie-Neige Saint-Vallier? ;)

Nice picture. I see she still has the school girl look but the hair is a lot lighter color, styled differently too I think. Also a hat now. Cute. I like that the glasses are different from each others. Why does Yuki have those marks on her arm?

Hmm..those are neat real names. But yeah, Maki and Yuki are good nicknames too, they are all stylish.

I felt like giving them something french for names since they're both supposed to be french Canadian girls now. I think representing your origin is important. And Bryan Lee O'Malley inspired me with his very Toronto-centric Scott Pilgrim comic books.

Yuki's got a nasty scar on her arm. She was too beautiful, so I had to "ruin" her somehow. ;)
She never tells people how she got hurt like this, but she doesn't really go out of her way to hide the scar itself.

It would be kinda dorky if they both had the same glasses. I almost ended up giving Yuki new ones that looked like a blue version of what Maki wears, but I decided to give the blue glasses to... someone else.

Ah, I see. Interesting info. Yeah, I like the Scott Pilgrim books too. Yeah, I suppose an extra feature like a scar could give character to your...character. :) Its an interesting choice.

Good luck with your future changes and story choices. I look forward to seeing more artwork.

A lot of Maki's design was borrowed from various girls I know.
I thought I could do the same with Yuki, so I stole the scar from yet another friend of mine.

I think she was flattered. :)

Ah, cool. Nothing wrong in having real life inspire your work, I think it helps. Its especially cool when a reader confirms you made a good choice in something they can identify with (like a physical detail or behavior or whatever that you want to be realistic.)

Haha, sure. I've always kinda been irked when we gaijin decide to use japanese names for no reason.. i may have done that.... a couple times... maybe....

That said, I'm used to these girls as Maki and Yuki... might just be me.

........ i need to go draw something.

We all had out weaboo phases.

And yes, we're all used to 'em as Maki and Yuki. But now those are random nicknames making them the weaboos instead. ;)

They're both officially french canadians now. But the names Maki and Yuki aren't going anywhere... (yet)

Haha.. sure, dump your ex sins onto the characters. :P Wait... i do THAT, too. Next book has to have someone who plays vid games and nods when people talk to him, but doesn't hear a *^)& thing of it.

Maki and Yuki are invited to go have a vacation in Aguloa, my australia-ish island nation west of south america. Just make sure they stay out of Autar, Meston, and Desnfarn. The tourist trade there has been hurt a lot by walking dead and stuff like bombs.

well, depending on the timing, 2 of those locations are now little more than craters. Densfarn did a bit better. Lotta rebuilding going on. Need a construction job?

Lol.

Craters are no fun.
Noticed how Maki is hanging out in concrete-heavy areas lately? I need to take her to the countryside.

Noémie? I thought you weren't too fond of names ending with "i".

And Maki has teeth! Yay!
Good job!

Noémie is an exception to the rule because it's not some random name with "ie" thrown at the end like Leonie or Johanie.
