Jane Austen Silhouette

Description

Gee, whaddaya know, more Jane Austen! :giggle: :D

This was a bit of an experiment. For whatever reason, late one night I was struck by the desire to attempt to draw Jane's famous profiled silhouette off of the cover of one of my biographies of her, free-hand, without any tracing or transferring involved. I did it in pencil, then, when satisfied it bore a reasonable resemblance, I inked it.

The scroll-y leafy things are my idea of filling in and balancing out the empty space...not sure how well they work here, but hey. :) The words are my best effort at imitating Jane's handwriting, also penciled free-hand, then gone over with black ink. Then I ripped the edges of the cardstock, and put black behind it. :D

But can one ever actually have too much Austen? =P There's a bookmark with her face (not the silhouette) on the wall next to my computer, in fact, which a friend brought back from England years ago. =)
I love silhouettes, they're always so striking, and you've done a great job. I think I'd suggest filling in your 'scroll-y leafy things' to solid black, to balance everything, since the background and Jane herself are both so heavy and solid. But this is a great experiment – experiments are good to do! =)
