He placed it before Anne... by olde-fashioned He placed it before Anne... by olde-fashioned
I made this using one of C.E. Brock's exquisite illustrations for Jane Austen's Persuasion, specifically the scene "He placed it before Anne" where Captain Wentworth gives Anne Elliot The Letter. *sigh* If you've read the book, you'll know how wonderful it is!! It's such a wonderful ending to a wonderful story.

I've reproduced the letter itself in its entirety, using Pia Frauss' Jane Austen handwriting font, so it would look as much as possible like it would have been originally written. :-)

This matches a similar wallpaper I made for Pride & Prejudice that can be viewed here:

I love this book! Together with "Pride and Prejudice", I've read them both so many times..
This is my favourite moment from the book and it's so beautifully recreated!

What's the size of your laptop? You could try setting it to center with a similarly-colored background...

How very dashing! Captain Wentworth is my favourite Jane Austen male. I wish you did a portrait of him or something! I'm reading Persuasion again right now and I'm hunting for a picture of his but I don't like the actors who portrayed him at all. (They're just no match for my personal Wentworth ;))

Thank you! :D And that's funny, because I'm rereading Persuasion, now, too, because of the Pemberley.com group read.

While the 1995 version is the best, I'm not entirely satisfied with any of the movies, either. They always manage to screw up The Letter!!!

Your portrait is a good idea -- if I could pull it off, lol! ;-)

I haven't seen any of the Persuasion movies! :D I've seen Pride and Prejudice (with Keira) a dozen times, and I've seen Sense and Sensibility, and I've seen 'Becoming Jane'. I haven't seen any of the BBC productions yet. But I wouldn't really want to... movies never get it right anyway! :D I love P&;P because I saw it before I read the novel. I imagine Darcy differently now. And while I can accept Matthew McFayden still it would have been different had I read the book first. He wouldn't have satisfied me at all then! :D And as for Persuasion- Captain Wentworth couldn't be played by anyone. Except maybe Jim Caviezel-. He's in Thin Red Line (which is a brilliant movie) and he's ever so hot in it. My personal Wentworth looks a bit like him.

I've seen all three versions of Persuasion. IMO the '95 one is the best, but the leading couple is a tad bit on the mature side, for my mental image of Anne and Wentworth. However Ciaran Hinds is a wonderful actor, so he more than makes up for it IMVHO!! The new ITV version with Rupert Penry-Jones was nothing short of a travesty, I'm afraid. And I'd only recommend the 1970's version if you want to take a non-addictive sleeping pill...;P And not one of those versions has Capt. Wentworth pulling little Charles off of Anne's back, which vexes me greatly! :P

I don't imagine Wentworth as dark as Jim Caviezel, actually. (if you like him have you seen the Count of Monte Cristo? You'd probably like that.)

So you like war movies, eh? That's rare to meet a girl who does! I thought I was one of the few, lol.

MM didn't do it for me at all in P & P '05, probably because I'd read the book and seen all the other versions beforehand. ;P Colin Firth is the best, IMO.

Have you read or watched any of Northanger Abbey?

I've seen pictures of Ciaran Hinds previously and he might actually do as Wentworth. ;) But the blondie-one is not acceptable at all.
Ooh, the Captain preventing little Charles from molesting Anne is one of my favourite scenes in the whole book!
I imagine him quite as dark as Jim Caviezel.- It's funny but now I've come to think about it Jim comes really close to how I imagine Wentworth.
And The count of Monte Cristo is where I saw him first, actually. He swept me off my feet! ;)
I've read Northanger Abbey. I've read P&;P, S&S, Persuasion obviously, and Northanger Abbey.
Oh, and I've read Vilette by one of the Bronte sisters, and Wuthering Heights. I really loved that one!

Even if he's too old, Ciaran Hinds is such a good actor I think he overcomes that. I saw him in two mediocre adaptations (Ivanhoe and Jane Eyre, where he plays Rochester) and he practically carried the films by himself IMVHO.

Aha! LOL, I confess, that movie rather annoys me with it's costuming being several decades too late....coughcough...but then I'm a purist and a stickler for accuracy, lol. ;P

I'm dying to read both of those!! I've only read JE, but WH is on my list, as is Vilette. I already have a copy. ;-)

I have never seen him in any movie. I think I should in consideration of your high praise! :) And I haven't read JE yet. I really should! But Wuthering Heights is just brilliant! It sure differs from the Austen novels- it's a lot darker- but it's wonderful. ".. he shall never know how I love him: and that, not because he's handsome, Nelly, but because he is more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same...”
*sigh*

As for The Count.. I didn't think it was a good movie! :D But I liked Jim's looks, hahaha ;)

And what does IMVHO stand for?

Well I've only seen him in four things, I think, but so far he hasn't disappointed. LOL, I hope you aren't disappointed, now that I've recommended them to you!! ;P

I've been dying to read WH, and I know it's dark, having read JE and knowing what to expect from a Bronte sister. :P I did see the Olivier movie ages ago, so I am familiar with the plot, but I'm hoping for a few surprises in the novel itself! ;-)

Sigh indeed! Although Capt. Wentworth's letter gets a pretty big sigh out of me as well.....

Have you heard Hayley Westenra's version of the WH song? :O

ROTFLOL!!!

Oh dear....I'm sorry about that! IMVHO means In My Very Humble Opinion. I suppose since I've gotten rather bad about using internet slang I should also mention that ROTFLOL means Rolling On The Floor Laughing Out Loud...
