As part of the process of working on the Dark Solstice illustration, I figured I should share some of the inspirations and references/ research that went into the concept. A lot of different sources contributed, and while I couldn't fit all of them on here, you can see several of the key ones included. I think it's important to have a variety of sources, ranging from things found in nature, art history, and contemporary pop culture, as well as a variety of mediums when possible. It's fascinating to also notice the overlap, and an awareness that no thing comes from nothing, and influences are a lineage that can be traced back quite far. It's good to be aware of both the source material as well as modern interpretations, in order to have a fuller picture of potential options and ideas.
