Chapter 4: Secrets and Lies
“What happened?!” Cass demanded as she snapped out of her shock.
“I have no idea! But we’ll have to deal with it later,” Rapunzel said, looking past Cass as everyone heard a familiar sound draw nearer.
“Let’s go!” Varian led the way as they started running, black rocks emerging from the woods behind them. As the girls ran ahead, Varian hung back and faced the rocks. He held out his hands, trying to use his magic to stop them, but nothing happened. With no results, he ran to catch up to Rapunzel and Cass.
They stepped onto the bridge, running as fast as they could toward the two horses. Maximus sensed something was wrong and stared at Rapunzel as he stepped closer for a better look. A piece of the bridge cracked and broke away under his weight, forcing him to step back as a sizable gap opened.
