Description

My monthly art piece for March, a colourised variation on this piece done for Inktober: www.deviantart.com/j-shute-nor…

Featuring Berserker88 and Mindjack's worst girl, Lucy Sang! (Links to their profiles from the original Inktober piece).

An aim of mine this year is to do one artwork piece a month
, ideally with the aim of developing/ advancing my skills. -Of course, sometimes something else comes up (e.g. with a Server icon contest that took up February) or I have things planned (An end of May/Start of June evil little idea for the start of Pride month, then probably Loona and Roxxanne snogging or worse for that month proper). In this case, I found myself short of time and, with a holiday coming up, pushed this out to make the schedule. I wanted to try a few things: Colourised lines, leather, more practice with lighting. Seeing as I've got pretty good at anatomy, I chose (and will likely carry on doing so) to take a previous line piece and colour in. -Unfortunately, it seems lots of the characters I have/ choose end up with dark/ black fur, which my art style and scene choices seem to try and ratchet up. -Will need to choose something else for April (already have a few ideas, the leader of which will involve tan fur, blue skies and a warm red sun).

Either way
, dark pic resulted in some... results. In terms of coloured lines, they probably don't work with the dabbled/watercolour style I'm pushing towards, and if I were to explore that style it's probably best to pic the line colour AFTER filling in the insides. Leather, took a bit of practice, but its getting there. As for the lighting, good attempt... -I started out using the same watercolour brush I used for the filling in for it, but while that works for colour details and broad lighting effects such as the leather, for general soft lighting I think it's confirmed that the airbrush tool is MVP. And I got more familiar with some techniques in Krita. While there's some things I'd certainly do different and this was by no means an epitome of artist efficiency, I'm fairly happy with this as a practice/ learning experience.
