Today (June 4th) is Drawing Day!  Here is the website:

Basically, all you have to do is draw something.  I should be posting something tonight, you should too!

New blog (sort of)

Tue Apr 26, 2011, 7:30 PM
Just made a new icon and link to my tumblr blog in the info section of this page.  I wasn't using this blog and figured I'd start posting my sketches there.  I don't feel like DA really caters to sketch work, since no one really bothers to check scraps (me included), so I did this as a way to share some of my better pieces that aren't DA-worthy.

In case you're wondering, my stories are still on my blogspot.  Believe it or not, I'm still working on a few stories, some are even finished, but until I have some decent artwork I'm holding off on posting them.

Thanks for reading! :peace:

Plans / Tools of the trade

Sun Jan 23, 2011, 9:07 PM
Though it's been forever since I've submitted anything besides DSC sketches, I'm working on a few things.  I'm going to try to color or at least shade my drawings from now on, so they might take longer but hopefully they'll be better! :D

My stories are kind of on the back-burner right now, but I'm working on some art for them you should be seeing here eventually.

If you're interested in the tools I use for my art, check this out:

In case any of you are interested, I started a new Silent Hill (1) fan fic called Sense of Life with Lisa as the main character.  Like my other stories, it will be posted in segments to my blog.  You can see new updates on the twitter section of this page.

I'm a big fan of the games, at least until the recent batch of non-Team Silent produced games.  I feel like the main characters of SH1 (and 2) have gotten a pretty lousy rap, either being killed off, misrepresented, or retconned out of sequels.  So I thought it would be fun to do something that's pure, old school SH1 with a few twists.

First story up

Sun Jan 24, 2010, 8:21 PM
Took me awhile, but I've finally gotten (part of) a short story story finished.  You can read it on my blog here.

The first story is Madame Macabre: Familiar Oblivion.  You might have seen a few of the Madame Macabre pics I've posted.  The story is gothic horror, but also fantasy and takes place in an alternate reality of Earth.

There will be more of this story posted soon, and some other stories.  If you're interested you can see the latest posts on the twitter section of this page.  Thanks!

Belated thanks for 5K

Sun Aug 16, 2009, 12:02 AM
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for my 5,000 hits!

I have to admit I took it for granted since I do a lot of watching, so I know a lot of the views have to be from that.  But the other day I looked at the views on my pics and was really surprised by the amount I was getting.

I know I don't submit a lot of material, but I'm always working on stuff (more so lately), so be patient & thanks for the support! :peace:

Better art

Fri Apr 10, 2009, 8:35 PM
Lately I've been trying to figure out better ways of making art, and I think I've learned some things.

Trying to make something great doesn't really pay off.  You worry so much about what other people will think and your own standards that you don't grow as an artist.  But when you just sit down and draw something without worrying about it, you're able to come up with new ideas, learn some things, and get to see how much you've already learned.

I think it's good to stick with what you're comfortable with.  I've always been a hands-on kind of artist.  I could never get past drawing on the computer--even after buying a Cintiq--not to mention coloring on it, but have always tried since digital is the "thing".  But I like shading and coloring on paper, so I've decided to start working that way, then finalizing in Photoshop.

I guess if there's a third thing, it's draw what you like.  I browse the fantasy section of this site a lot, but don't have any of my art in that category, and that needs to change! :peace:

'09 update

Mon Jan 26, 2009, 5:22 PM
Well I posted an amazing 6 things last year, 2 of which I drew the year before.  I've been drawing a lot, I just haven't been finishing things or feeling like my stuff's not good enough.

I think a lot of people like me are intimidated, but the truth is:
1.) I don't have a lot of time
2.) I'm no Michelangelo
3.) I'm not getting paid for this
--and I think most of the greats here have at least one of the 3 going for them.

I think another part of the problem is critiques a.k.a. "comments."  Not that I don't mind the occasional constructive critique, but I really don't care what my art looks like.  Odds are, my stuff is flawed and I know it.  I just like to draw and look at art (I spend way too much time on DA), and I don't really care if things aren't perfect--nothing is.

I really hope to post more soon (I've got a lot lined up), and if you feel the same way I hope you do too.  Art should be fun! :peace:

Back to basics/Art Materials pt. 2

Sat Nov 8, 2008, 1:02 PM
Lately, I know there's been a lack of new content here.  So I've decided I need a change in direction, most importantly starting to practice more, but also coloring things, and doing full figures.

I should also be uploading some art from the short stories I'm working on here in the future.

Of the stuff I ordered from Akadot and Deleter, I like the Copic 0.03 and 0.05 Multiliner SP and the Deleter Neopiko Line 2s the best.  The Copics create incredibly fine lines--my only complaint is they're not very dark.  The Neopiko 2s have better ink flow compared to the old Neopiko--but if you buy them, I would get at least 2 of each because they seem to dry out quicker.  The Deleter B5 135kg paper is great with pens, I bought 5 packs so I'm set for years! :)

Art Materials/update

Sun Sep 7, 2008, 12:21 AM
Does anybody even read these things?  I know I don't.

Anyway, I got some new art materials so I thought I'd share.  For years I've been using Deleter paper--135 kg B5 size ("Doujinshi") to be exact.  About a month ago I ran out and had to use printer paper again, and it made me realize why I never use it.  Printer paper sucks for inking because it tends to bleed and smear, and if you do a lot of under-drawing with pencil it can be hard to get rid of.  You have none of these problems with the 135 kg paper, and it's a lot smoother.  I can't recommend it enough.

Also got a Copic 0.03 and 0.05 Multiliner SP.  The 0.05 is way better than my Deleter Neopiko Line, but the 0.03 is my new best friend.  I like drawing small and I always use a 0.03 mechanical pencil, so it's perfect.  Also got a Copic Drawing Pen, which is quill-style, and it seems pretty good so far.

I ordered all this from and direct from Deleter.  Akadot has quick shipping but not everything in stock (namely, the paper).

Lately I've been focusing on my stories, but I do have a few things that could be up here soon. :peace:

Blog art (update)

Sun Jun 22, 2008, 2:44 AM
Just a reminder to check out my blog to see my new art.

Lately I've been trying to draw more, and liking my blog for being able to be rough and experiment.  I feel like posting on DA means you have to finish things, which I hardly ever do, and no one ever really looks at the scraps folder.  So, yeah... hopefully a few things will be finished enough to end up here.

In other news, I'm working on a few illustrated stories.  I haven't posted any yet, but they should be up in the next month or so.  Check my website for updates.  Thanks! :peace:

Blog art, etc.

Sun May 11, 2008, 2:10 AM
I'm going to be posting more on my blog from now on, so if you're interested in my art check there for updates.  I just don't have much time to finish things these days, and I'm trying to focus on practice and the projects I'm working on--but I'm sure a few things will end up here.

Also - since I'm making this less of a commitment, I won't be posting updates about my comics/stories here.  Please check my website for updates.  Thanks!

Simplicity, Pt. 2

Sun Apr 20, 2008, 3:13 AM
As usual, I've got a whole lot of nothing to talk about, though I do have several projects in the works.  Mainly, though, I'm trying to figure out how to be a better artist.  I think my problem is my stuff is too simple, or too complicated.  Like my pen sketches, which all took no more than 2 minutes compared to the rest of my "finished" stuff, which typically take about 4 hours.

So, I'm going to try simplify my stuff to cut down on time, or start re-working sketches into finished pieces.  And, of course, I'm going to try to color them (though I think I suck at coloring...) :P

Sat Mar 22, 2008, 11:52 PM
I'm working on a few projects now, most notably a short story that's very minimally illustrated.  It's funny, but writing has actually taught me about art.  It's real easy to over-elaborate, but, as I've learned from books I've read, it actually works in your favor to leave things out and focus on what's really important.  Filling in the blanks is half the fun, and the same can probably be said of art.  So, I'm going to to try to apply this thinking to my art.

The story is called Chasm, and Chapter 1 is almost done (all 3 pages of it =P).  It's apocalyptic sci-fi.  Hopefully I finish it!

In other news I'm going to start posting some color stuff. :peace:

Well, I got my Cintiq 12WX today... a little present to myself.  It's great, but of course it's a mixed bag.  My computer won't do dual display and tends to freeze when I switch displays--not sure if this is Vista or my graphics card.  On top of that, there's a dead pixel right near the center of the screen, so I'm going to have to get it replaced... I don't want to try to erase that the rest of my life. :P

Other than that it's very cool.  I've heard drawing on screen can be a pain, but there's a helper cursor and it's pretty much spot-on.  The surface also feels similar to paper and isn't too hot/cold.

New Cintiq!

Wed Dec 12, 2007, 10:12 PM

Looks like Wacom released a new lightweight Cintiq, which is good since I'm beginning to not want a laptop.

Right now I'm working on redesigning my website, and not much else. :P

Well, I still haven't ordered by laptop... you'll know when I do. =P

Very slowly, I think I'm getting closer to making a comic.  I've started working in a rougher, quicker style which you can see in Gunner.  With any luck, I'll have something up soon, but I can't stay for sure.

No news really, just wanted to update.  I'm more into sketching and working on comics these days, not art... and I never really was.  I hope to post some things from time to time, but nothing regular.

I'll post big updates here, but otherwise check out my website & blog for the latest.  Thanks. :peace:
