Featured And getting back at it

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 23, 2012, 3:11 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

I've been featured in painting-with-lights journal: painting-with-light.deviantart…

The photo that was featured is here: fav.me/d5fit6g

On that note,  I'm trying (again) to get back into the swing of things.  I've got the same excuse as before of being very busy and not having time to post on DA.  However any excuse is no excuse, so I'm going to try.

I've got a shoot today and I hope to get some images up soon.

Photo Retouching

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 12, 2012, 7:10 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

I've decided to offer my services as a photo retoucher.  This is only on a limited trial basis until I can determine if it is something that is feasible and sustainable for me.

My introductory rate will be $24 per hour with a minimum $8 (20 minutes) base fee.  This is in Canadian dollars.  I'll probably boost the prices later.

You can see my gallery for examples of my retouching work.  Almost all of my photography in the last couple of years has been retouched to some degree.

I can do anything from colour correction and photographic effects like antique photos, removing power lines, and blemishes, doing the "Photoshop Diet" and other more advanced techniques.

Just ask me and show me the picture and I will let you know what I can do and how much work it will take.

I'm planning to put up a few examples in the next little while.

New 3D

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 14, 2010, 11:16 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

I've just posted my first new 3D image in a long time.  It feels great.  I haven't had much 3D inspiration lately and I've been busy trying to put together a photography business and work on and promote my photography.

Thanks to all of my 3D fans for sticking with me.  3D is still a passion of mine, and there will be more to come.  I think learning new photographic techniques in both the camera and in post production has improved my 3D as well, because 3D and photography are really very closely related.

Thanks to all of my 3D fans for sticking with me.

Enjoy! :)

Went with the D90

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 10, 2010, 7:46 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

I decided to buy the Nikon D90 over waiting for the rumoured D7000 and save the extra money the D7000 would have cost for buying a new camera bag and a speedlight.  I bought it, and now have nothing to shoot with it.  The weather has been terrible, and we have been renovating, so the house is in shambles and I've been too busy piecing it back together to get out shooting.  I hope to do something with it this weekend, but no guarantees.  It is everything I wanted and more.

D90 or D7000?

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 2, 2010, 11:29 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

Nikon just dropped the price of the D90.  I've been thinking about getting one, but there are many solid rumours that Nikon is about to replace it with the D7000.  the D7000 will be way more capable but will cost a few hundred more.  Is it worth waiting and saving some more for the newer one, or should I get the D90?

Getting back to normal

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 10, 2010, 8:19 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Twitter l Facebook l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

My live has slowed back down a bit and things are getting back to normal.  I apologize to everyone for such a long absence.  I had to do the unthinkable and clear my watched deviations.  There were over 5000 of them.  I hope to start going looking at my watches again now that I'm back to my more normal routine.

There should be more work coming soon.

By the way, I now have a facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Innisfi…

And I am also on Twitter: twitter.com/odhinnsrunes (I tend to usually tweet photography tips as well as when I post more 3D/Photography work.)

You can see larger collections of my photography on Flickr as well: www.flickr.com/photos/odhinnsr…

Really Busy Month

Journal Entry: Mon May 17, 2010, 7:20 PM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

Some people may have noticed I haven't been very active lately.  May is an almost impossibly busy month every year, with birthdays, holidays and such and added to that this year is the busiest I've been at work for a long time.  I'm also trying to get a part time portrait photography business started to pay for my hobbies.  So as a result, I haven't had much time to look at my watched artists work.  I have tried to keep up with messages, but have fallen behind a bit.  I'm working on that now.

Things should clear up a bit in June and I'll be back at it.

Until then, you can follow my inactivity on twitter (just joined on an impulse after resisting it for a long time) here: twitter.com/odhinnsrunes

Again, I'll probably be more active there as time goes on.

New Old 3D and Some New New On the Way

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 28, 2010, 1:46 PM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

The last couple of days I've posted a couple of rendered that were ones I had abandoned for various reasons and have now revisited and finally finished.  I have another couple I plan to release like this, and some new ideas (finally).  So it's back to 3D for a while.

I'm going to try to keep a fairly steady stream of new 3D coming for the next little while, plus maybe some photography if it comes up, but most likely just a bunch of 3D.

I've been a bit low on ideas, and I'm trying to have my images tell a bit more of a story, which is why there hasn't been much 3D activity from me lately.

I think I've built up some momentum now so expect some more new stuff soon. :)

Finished Posting My Photo Shoot For Now

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 9, 2010, 11:42 AM
Gallery l dA Portfolio l Flickr l Web l Watch Me l Note Me

I think I'm finished posting photos from my recent photo shoot.

There were far more keepers than the ones I posted here.  The best 60 or so can be seen on my Flickr photostream here: www.flickr.com/photos/odhinnsr… and www.flickr.com/photos/odhinnsr…

In total, I took 296 pictures during the shoot.  Of those I chose about 60 or so, that I actually did post processing to to bring out the colours etc.  I think I posted 22 of them here.  I could have selected most of the images in the shoot.

I've never had as high a ratio of pictures taken to pictures that turned out in my life as a photographer.  For this I give full credit to the model, Kirsten.  Every time I took a  picture, she was ready for the next one, with a new pose by the time the strobes had recharged.  She can be found on Model Mayhem here: www.modelmayhem.com/208931

Thank you to everyone who has become a watcher because of these pictures and thank you to every one who has faved.  The response has been incredible.  I've had some great comments and :+fav:s and :+devwatch:es from everyone.  The ones I especially appreciate are the ones from other photographers whom I have admired for years and were the inspiration for me to venture into glamour photography.  I also appreciate all of the similar support I have received from my watchers that are here because of my 3D work.  I appreciate all of my watchers and commenters.

It'll be back to 3D for a while until the next time I do a shoot.  Possibly there will be a couple of photomanips of other pictures in this series as well, I don't know for sure.  I will likely be doing one or two more shoots over the summer, so don't worry, there will be more to come.

The following are the most popular from my shoot or are my favourites:

Still Doing 3D

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 6, 2010, 11:50 AM
Facebook l Gallery l dA Portfolio l Watch Me l Note Me

This entry is directed at my watchers who are watchers because they enjoy my 3D graphics.

Simply put, don't worry, I'm still doing 3D.

As you have noticed, I've also taken a detour into Glamour, Nude and Portrait photography.  I intend to keep doing this along side my 3D work.  I've actually been a photographer much, MUCH, longer than I've done 3D and have recently been able to afford the time and cost of getting back into it in a big way.

However, I also get a great satisfaction in creating 3D graphics and have no intention of letting that hobby fall to the wayside in the name of photography.

I have been focusing on photography lately because I am trying to go Semi-Pro so that the hobby can pay for itself, so that is why there haven't been too many 3D pictures lately.  I have also been in a bit of a 3D creative slump, that photography has temporarily filled.  This slump will end soon as ideas start piling up in my mind.

So never fear, I will be doing some 3D images very soon.  I will also still be releasing my photos as well.

I hope no matter the reason you became a watcher, you enjoy both of my artistic styles and will remain a watcher for a long time to come!

I appreciate all of you!

Take care.

Jim.

On Sunday, I went to a photo shoot at the very cool Creative Image Studios. www.creativeimagestudios.com/

It was an amazing experience.  I had originally intended to do a workshop to learn how to work with a model, but it was cancelled because not enough people signed up.  I think it overlapped march break too much.  So I decided to just jump in with bot feet and booked a spot in a full photo shoot the following weekend.  I'm really glad I did.

The model was Kirsten Visima www.modelmayhem.com/208931 who is incredibly talented and great to work with.  She made my job taking the pictures very easy.

Her great makeup and body paint were done by the equally talented Shantelle Canzanese www.modelmayhem.com/645809 who was there all day adding to the body paint between sets.

I've uploaded two of the pictures I took there, and will be uploading more as time goes on.  The first two are:

and

I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

I still plan to do a lot of 3D images, so, for those who follow me for my 3D stuff, don't worry.  I'm just in a bit of a creative slump in that area at the moment.

I also have plans to take some of the images I took at the shoot and do some photo manipulations with them.

Cheers!

SelfEstememe

Wed Mar 3, 2010, 5:29 AM
I recently found a wonderful DA group called SelfEstememe (Self-esteem Me).  The purpose of which is to give people self-esteem through photography.

The idea is that people with a negative body image can be helped by having a set of portraits taken that show them how attractive they really are.

It may seem strange at first, but trust me it really works.  Everyone has beauty somewhere, they just need to be shown where it is.

I have seen this myself.  The pictures to recently took of my wife had a profound effect on her self-esteem and even on her general day to day mood.

:thumb152774818: :thumb152774451: :thumb152774327: :thumb152774131: :thumb152773949:

Before these were taken, she hated (and I mean hated) having her picture taken.  I got these because I had recently bought some studio lighting equipment, and wanted to try it out and get used to using it.  (That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;) )  She said it was ok, but the pictures were,  "for my eyes only."  She actually was having fun near the end of the shoot, and I got some great shots as you can see.

When I had played around with a bit of post work, I showed these to her, and she was so happy with them, that when I asked if I could post them here she said, "Absolutely!"  Then a few days later, she asked, almost angrily,  why I hadn't posted them to facebook yet!  Now she is a happier person, who doesn't mind having her picture taken on any occasion, and she even wants to do another shoot and get some more, even sexier ones.

All this from a person who before the shoot had terrible self-esteem and complained whenever I got my camera out of the bag.

If it can have this effect on her, the same thing can help anyone else with the same issues.  As a matter of fact, I am working right now toward becoming a part time professional portrait photographer, and most of my requests have been to make pictures like these for women who have seen them, and have seen the change it has made in my wife and want the same thing for themselves.  IT looks like it may be what I am building my business on.

SelfEstememe was created with this purpose in mind.  If you know anyone on DA with low self-esteem that you think may benefit from something like this, or if you think you could benefit from this yourself, please check the group out.  It would be well worth it.

Photography

Tue Feb 16, 2010, 7:41 AM
I am getting more and more back into photography.  In fact I'm considering making it a second part time job or at least a paying hobby.

Originally, when I started in DA, I was here because of my 3D artwork.  I have usually refrained from posting my photography because of that, even though I have tons of pictures.

I've posted a poll here: odhinnsrunes.deviantart.com/jo…

It asks whether I should start a separate account for my photography.

Please comment here or on the poll if you have an opinion one way or the other.

Thanks a ton in advance for your advice! :thanks:

Stock

Fri Feb 27, 2009, 12:05 PM
I've released some stock images ( odhinnsrunes.deviantart.com/ga… ).  They are comic style line drawings rendered in DAZ|Studio.

I'm hoping that they can prove useful to people as figure references, or as characters in some comic style artwork.

Meaning, I'd like to see them colored in and have some backgrounds added. :)

There will probably be more to come.

Use them as you see fit, however:

1. Send me a note when you use one of them, with a link to your finished artwork.

2. Give me credit for the part of your image including my work.

Enjoy!

My image "Clean Me" has been released by my company in a magazine.  It is my first image to be published.  It is in a magazine called Professional Carwashing and Detailing (April 2005) (You won't find it) Anyway I am a bit excited about it and figured that my Journal was the best place to express it.
