Dancing by Herself by odhinnsrunes Dancing by Herself by odhinnsrunes
She dances about as well as I do. Which to say not well at all, but at least she tries. :)

Posed and set up in DAZ Studio, renderd in Luxrender via the Reality plugin.

Image is as it came out of Luxrender other than the logo.

I've had it now since it first came out and finally 'got' it a few weeks ago.

Best thing is to start simple and go from there. It is about the biggest resource hog I've ever seen and complexity is usually the problem.

Many of my images with it just have V4, hair and the Nerd3D Backdrop Deluxe ( [link] ). I use the backdrop without a texture just like a seamless photo background in a photographer's studio. Then I make anything not actually in the render invisible (hands, feet, etc.), make sure the Cornea, Eye-surface and Tear materials on v4 are transparent and have no texture maps and set up the lights. I never use the spots or point lights any more. Instead I use mesh lights (planes or cubes). They seem to give a good result faster. Reality comes with a good mesh light to start with and some IBL setups.

The thing to remember with Luxrender is that it doesn't use any tricks or shortcuts to simulate light. It actually calculates what light would really do, so it takes a LONG time to render a complex scene. Especially if there is glass, etc. If there is glass it is faster to set it to architectural. It doesn't do refraction.

Also, make sure your Reality plugin and Luxrender are the latest versions. They've come a long way in the last little while.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks! I'm still a bit surprised at how easily it rendered. I've had simpler scenes be much slower.
