In the Natsuverse, Vampires aka Dead Apostles have multiple ranks from Rank I ( mindless ghoul ) to VII ( Dead Apostle Ancestor ).

After the events of Action Kurenai, where Ayame was turned into a vampire in order to save her life, Ayame fell underneath Rank III. Meaning that she's more of a ' fledgling ' vampire that can be considered to be Kurenai's servant.

While she's at a Rank where she *can* have some independence, it still isn't ideal. Because of this, Ayame and Kurenai's current goal is to get Ayame to Rank IV. At IV, she won't be on the level of someone like Arcueid but she would at least be a fully-fledge Vampire.

There's many ways for a lower Ranked vampire to move up the ranks, although these methods are closed off to Ayame since she doesn't practice Magecraft. There's also the worse case scenario of her needing to kill Kurenai, which is not on the table.

Their best bet? Take out a Higher-Ranked Vampire, and conveniently there is just a Vampire Horde for them to take out.
