It's sort of a weird feeling, but after decades of console gaming I've decided I'm out - at least on new consoles. The Switch was the last one I bought and before that the PS3, having given the PS4/PS5 generations a miss since you can only resell me the same game with prettier graphics so many times before I catch on. The modern console market is a flaming plane crash I'm definitely getting out of the way of, and I'm firmly in my retro-game era now. These days any time I go into a game shop it's to bolster my PS3/PS2/PS1/Dreamcast libraries, and with no less than 9 retro consoles I'm in no short supply of entertainment options. This doesn't mean I'm totally out of modern gaming as I still have a gaming PC, but I feel that console no longer has any valid attraction - if I can't play it on PC, I don't need it. I already have a 60-game backlog on Steam besides, so if I never bought another game in my life I'd still have more than I'll ever finish. End of an era,

Had THE conversation with my Mom the other day Her: "Hope you're saving for retirement." Me: "I won't make it to retirement. Even if I did, I wouldn't be able to." Her: "Why would you say such a thing?" Me: "Pick one: climate death spiral, rapidly spiking anxiety levels, inevitable political violence, bankruptcy from ONE trip to the hospital? Why bother? I'll be living under a bridge or dead in ten years." I'll be honest with you: she did NOT care for it.
