Desperado Legendary Ascension Part 2
The connection to the tree was not something Desperado wanted. She needed the power to ascend beyond her current status, so she could stand equally against the one that had stolen the heart and kept it prisoner. She did not want the power with shackles. It seemed that would not be the case, as power always cost something. She did feel the surge of something inside her as each shackle of rules bound to her. Like a leash or a collar, she felt the voice of the tree speak its constrictions. One, protect the tree. She could do that, she was part of the eternal order. She had been protecting her realm, the memory of her queen and the hatred she had for the ice prince for centuries. What more was adding the all powerful rooted tree to her list? Desperado Ascension Part 1
Legendary of: Coal, Volcano, Inferno Prompt: Desperado knew power when she felt it. It was like a hum on her skin. It was a song in the air that pierced her ears with it’s sound. It was a weight on her shoulders that bore down and reminded her of her status. She was a warrior, a powerful solider in the kingdom of her own. She was a member of the broken Eternal Winter Order, and she knew real power when she thought of the snow queen that this group kept chained and split. Perhaps that’s why when she came to be in front of the nightmare tree, it twist and rooted into a form that she found quite ugly. It bloomed bright white icy leaves, and the trunk was a dark black wood that reminded her very much of the many ice realms she travelled through. Her gaze lingered on the tree, and she waited patiently to understand why such a thing of power

A week later into palliative, right during the December holidays. We've been friends for over a decade now, and a group of us flew in to see her immediately. She did everything in her power to make us feel welcome. She looked tired, but there was a determination in her. She joked about how she was an "independent" so it meant she could walk around the hospital wing as she wished and we didn't have to worry. When her family invited us for dinner, she went out of her way to surprise us outside of the hospital. We played card games together, talked as long as she could, watched videos together, and cried when she left. I'll never forget when they officially diagnosed her with cancer because she looked so scared, surprised, and alone. None of us wanted to leave her side. We all texted and messaged her weekly afterwards. I tried to
