Unfinished OC Sheet of Milosh | 2022

I actually doodled a bit today and worked on a different character sheet – the one for my Mocasti called Ilion. I created the sheet for Ilion around the same time as this one. I initially wanted to post it after cleaning it up a bit, but I decided to completely rework the arms and all of the feathers. So, I’m not at a point where I want to share it yet, since I didn’t work on the parts I planned to (like the clothing).

It basically happened the same way it always does when I "just want to do something real quick".

Enough rambling, lol. This is Milosh ~ I’ll share more about him once I post the completed sheet. But let me give you a rundown. There are 3 fun facts at the bottom of this wall of text!

He is a student at a pretty progressive university that covers various schools of magic. Sadly, while the university's structures are progressive, some of the students aren't, and Milosh – being non-humanoid – faces both explicit hostility and often covert racism.

Considering the vast diversity of species, I won’t go into detail about the power structures or the prejudices of any particular group... at least not now. To keep it simple: part of the hostility is based on a species' inherent magical abilities. Some types of elves, for example, have a lot of magicka within them, while others have less – about the same as humans. Non-humanoids tend to have even less, though there's some variance, and they can often compensate by using magicka-filled energy stones. The key is that you need to learn how to feel and use the energy around or within you.

You can probably guess how that inflates some elves' egos. Using one's inherent magicka also comes with downsides, which is basically ignored in this equation, because people are often idiots, trying to elevate their own groups by pushing others down in every way possible, even if that means playing the game of lying and denying.

Milosh seems pretty chill about all this, but he's actually enraged by the fact that many look down on him – often quite literally, since he's very short. He perceives this hostility through a quite egocentric lens; rather than being enraged by the unfairness faced by him and his friends (a bear Kardinu and a swamp elf), he mostly focuses on his own disadvantages. Therefore, he overcompensates for any negative looks or hostility in a quite superficial way, and a strange indifference on the outside. Regardless of that, his insecurities show through. He comes from a poorer region, and his family did their best to get him into this university – one from which he also receives financial support. To hide this fact, he owns two sets of nice-looking clothing – though they are a bit too flashy and just look off to “the trained rich eye” to deceive those he wants to deceive. And on top of that, his lack of etiquette, and straight up lack of manners, often give him away quickly. That’s more due to his personal nature, because his family tried their best to raise him right. He’s just stubborn.

Luckily, his greatest strength is his sharp, inquisitive mind. He’s curious, with a scientist's spirit, and he wants to discover and understand the world around him – and beyond. His studies aren't about impressing others but for his own curiosity. He often experiments and pushes the boundaries of what's allowed at campus – sometimes outright breaking the rules.

In the future, he'll grow more confident in a way and will eventually stop caring about how others perceive him. As he gains success – both in the scientific field and on the market thanks to the gadgets and innovations he creates – he'll become more self-assured. But it is easy to be confident while succeeding in life.

Milosh has never been a particularly social person – he’s not mean, but he’s not exactly warm-hearted either or empathetic. Sure, he does good acts and he often is there for his friends, but there are limits to that. He will leave his closest friends behind in pursuit of his career and spend decades alone, hustling. His focus is solely on his own success, even to the point of ending a romantic relationship he was the one wanting so desperately in the first place.

FUN FACT 1: I already marked it in the drawing, but Milosh often wears feetless stockings and a bolero underneath his clothing to make himself appear less fluffy. The fabric is quite stretchy - made from a common spider silk, at least during Milosh's time. He rolls it up (like you do with e.g. nylon stockings), shoving it all up toward his thighs and shoulders first, and then rolling it downward so that it follows the direction of the fur growth.

FUN FACT 2: His last name is canonly a bit tough to pronounce and almost sounds like coughing. You basically start with the German "CH" sound (like in the name of the composer "Bach", when pronounced correctly and not like "back"), followed by an abrupt "H" as a voiceless glottal fricative (like in "hat"), and then the "KE" at last, which is pronounced as /kæ/ (basically like in "Käse" or in "camera").

FUN FACT 3: I named him Milosh because of this song. It's quite a banger, but I especially love the part starting after 5:50 (the link from the sentence before has this exact time stamp).
