Today I talk about a behind-the-scenes issue I am working to resolve: my printer doesn’t want to print my books anymore! Well, it’s more complex than that. Because of the format of my books, the company that makes my books, Ingram, would like me to switch to a thicker paper stock. Doing this might price me out of utilizing their services. The alternative would be to reformat the books and drop the black background I utilize on all of my comic pages. That would be some intense work, and would take a long time to adjust.
This is pretty upsetting for me. Printing my comics into graphic novels has been one of the most satisfying accomplishments in my creative life. Any trouble of this sort that threatens the status quo (of me printing my books as they are now) is scary, and I’m not happy this is happening.
However- this issue has not been resolved with Ingram. I may yet be able to work something out, and even if I can’t there are still other avenues to pursue.
And in the short-term, I’m happy to have finally started taking action on this issue. It’s been hanging over my head for some time. Even though it’s still unresolved, I feel better having started the process to remedy the situation.
